  1. Hi,

Anyone please tell me where I can download the MPEG-2 Codec? There is on in "Tools" on the left side but it is not a freeware.

    Thanks

  2. Well, free MPEG2 decoders are very hard to find. You can try the fraunhoffer filters liked to under the downloads section at www.doom9.org, but many times they do not work.

Other than that, I don't know what to tell you except many appliactions come with their own decoders. I use the Ligos decoder included with Easy CD/DVD Creator 6.

Get the Cyberlink MPEG2 codec by installing PowerDVD. You've got to buy MPEG2 for it to work good. Freebies, as stated, generally aren't very good. It's patented technology.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

in my opinion, I have used a few and I feel that the best and most reliable is from Elecard, which you can get from http://elecard.com/products/index.shtml

While the MPEG-2 codec is free, they charge $20 for they're player which comes with the codec.

While I used the free codec for a while, I purchased the player with it, mostly because I find their codec so reliable and allow every player and encoder work that I can throw at it.

What I like most about the player is that if I am playing a MPEG-2 video, I just right click on it and it gives me a full description of the video.

  7. While the Elecard MPEG2 decoder used to be free, it is now shareware and will expire after a short time.

If it is not free, that is new to me, I used the demo for quite some time, although if encoding, it will leave a little watermark of a little checkboard pattern.

For $20, thoough I happily purchased the player which came with the encoder/decoder. I still do not see a price for anything but the player.

  9. Just pay for one. The free MPEG2 decoders have tons of issues with them.

  10. I have one which I got from here a year ago. It's by a guy called Stinky. Don't think he's around any more but the codec works great. Send me an e-mail and I'll post it to you.
