  1. I have a bunch of old videos I am trying to put onto VCD before the tape totally deteriorates (most are from the early 80s). Since the video was recorded on a different VCR, my new one (with auto tracking) can't track it 100% so it leaves what I call noise lines along the bottom (the squiggly black and grey lines). About 50% of the time it also affects the sound.

I have tried using the Noise Reduction when I capture with VDub but it doesn't make a difference.

    Any suggestions??

    Thanks!!!!

    From what I've read...

It's recommended to filter and crop the edges of the video while frameserving to your encoder. That's done after the capture.

Also, you might want to see if you can turn off the autotracking.

(Haven't done any capture myself, just reading up in preparation.)

Some auto-tracking VCRs have an override to allow for manual tracking. I have two auto-tracking VCRs with this feature. I suggest you look closely in your VCR manual to see if your VCR does and if so, try to manually adjust the tracking for best picture/sound/least dropped frames.
