I got a "complimentary" copy of Nero Burn (5.5.8.2 TDK) when I bought my TDK CD-ROM burner. Since then, I have added a SONY DVD burner to my computer. The Nero software works great with the CD burner, but is restricted from using other non-TDK hardware.

I want to uprade my Nero Burn software to the "full" version. Looking at Nero's web-site, I see several "upgrade" options. However, I can find no direct "contact" link to ask the company which upgrade I need or what it will cost.

Does anyone know how to contact Nero or Ahead? Are there other softwares that I should be considering, if my only choice is to buy the full Nero Burn software at list price?

My goal is to be able to author CDs, SVCDs and DVDs with menus.

    Sincerely,
    Ray Hannisian

You should be able to order the WEB version. They will send you a serial # that will unlock NERO to be used with all manufactures recorders. Then when new updates to Nero come out just download them from the WEB and install. That how I upgraded my Nero.

You should be eligeable for a free download of the latest nero and hopefully this will include support for your burner. Install your version. Go to nero.com and click on "Latest Downloads nero burning rom v5.5.10.20" then download nero551020.exe. Run this exe and it will check your version and a screen should come up asking if you want to upgrade or remove nero. Follow instructions for upgrading.

OK, it gets more complicated. Now that I have updated Nero. Sometimes I try to "select recorder" and find my DVD burner (SONY) "crossed out", unavailable. Other times, Nero sees the DVD burner, but claims that my files are incompatible for DVD. Finally, a window appears called "Refresh Compilation", with the error code "Temp files for DVD burn\VIDEO_TS\VIDEO_TS.IFO was not found!"

Why would my DVD burner come and go like that? Am I missing some default setting?

Did you order the serial # for the full version? If you just updated the TDK version that may be your problem. The serial # that is imbedded in the original version you received with the drive is for the TDK interface only and may select the Sony drive at times but will not work properly. I had this same problem when I changed CD-RW drives from one manufacturer to another. The full version serial # opens the interface for all type drives the Nero is compatable with.

That's why I still use Nero 5.5.9.0 and stay away from the "new and improved" releases.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.
