  1. I amnaged to use TMPGEnc to encode a VCD, problem is the audio is out of sync. I checked the FAQ on this forum -

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=102383#divxto

And followed the first link. Problem is, whenever I use VDub and select Audio > Compression, it always crashes. I tried to follow the second link, but its dead. Does anyone have the link, or an alternative way to sync the audio to wav?
    Thx in Advance!!

Extract the audio stream with "Direct stream copy" and "Save WAV". This will give you the audio in the shape it's encoded in in the AVI, mostly MP3 or AC3, even if VirtualDub always use .WAV.
Then use a dedicated MP3/AC3 to WAV decoder to get the audio in WAV format.

In what way is it out of sync? Off by the same amount from start to finish? Gradual desync? Sudden desync in the middle?
What's the details of your source video? (Frame rate, a/v encoding...)
What's the details of your VCD mpeg? (Frame rate...)

  5. To be honest, not 100% sure. My source file is 23.976, and I have found that if I even make a direct stream copy with Virtual/Nandub, the audio is out.

I have tried many different ways of encoding, from splitting the file, direct conversion from original file and frameserving. Why is it out of sync even though I make a direct stream of it?

The movie is Xvid, if that helps.
    Thx in Advance!!

  6. Try just using TMPGenc. These instructions worked fine for me. Got them from the divx newsgroup.

to encode xvid with tmpegen u must change some settings and the have the xvid codec.

    1) Open TMPGEnc and press Cancel if Wizard pops up
    2) Go to Option->Environmental Setting...->VFAPI plug-in
    3) Adjust the plug-in priorities (this is done by right clicking on
the plug-in and choosing Higher priority as many times as
    necessary) to match the following:

    DirectShow Multimedia File Reader.......3
    AVI2(OpenDML) File Reader................1
    AVI VFW compatibility Reader.............0
    CyberLink MPEG-2 Decoder.................0
    Microsoft MPEG-1 Decoder.................0
    Wave File Reader..............................0
    BMP/PPM/TGA/JPG File Reader...........-2
    DVD2AVI Project File Reader 1.76+.....-2*
    TMPGEnc Project File Reader 2.58......-2*

    4) Press OK
    5) Now you can load your XviD AVI into TMPGEnc just like any other
AVI and encode as you wish.

  7. Thanks, but I already found that and had used those settings - and they helped alot

But I am still having problems with the syncing. From what I can see, its because it is an Xvid file. Other people seem to be having problems with Xvid converted MPG sync - but I cant find a solution. Other AVI compressed with DivX etc work fine.

So, how do I convert Xvid to mpg and keep the audio in sync?
    Thx in Advance!!

  8. Only other suggestion is to extract the audio using decompress.exe (avi2vcd) and use the pcm.avi file for the audio in TMPEG. Good luck.

  9. Trued that. Decompress crashes each time i open the xvid
    Thx in Advance!!

  10. I have a version of VDub that has a couple of extra setting. It keeps beter sound sync. Never use it ... seems to be stuck in PAL format.
Don't give in to DVD2ONE, that leads to the dark side.

scan your movie using Virtual Dub after bad frames which can cause your movie going out of sync.

First set both Audio and Video to "direct stream copy" and then in videotab scan for bad frames.

If you found out any, save it as a new AVI.

I've just tried this after a 16 hours of trying to sort out this crap. I ran a test sample. Encoded 5 seconds at the end of the film and checked the sync. Suprisingly it seemed to be in sync.

Have now begun encoding the entire film to see if it really did work.

My case was unusual. I havent read anything similar in the forums so far...

I seperated my audio from the avi using VDUB and the audio track was 1.26.18.616 in lenght but the film was 1.26.27.000

So you see i had lost some time in there somewhere. I tried stretching it, warping it, timestretching it. Never came close to fitting. But your suggestion seems to have worked...at the moment... Thanx

  13. NO!!!!!!

It started out of sync and worked its way in then out again....fudging hell!!!

This is driving me batty!!! There has ato be a straight forward way of converting these crappy DIVX / XVID files. I cant see the point in having all these fantastic compression formats when they only seem to work one way....compress.....for the humble guy who wants it back to its old ways its pants.

I'll be watching this one on the PC then and deleting after that.
