P4 2.4Ghz (running at 2.8Ghz)

I don't think there is anything wrong with your drive. But, why would you want to rip with the Sony anyway???
Use the DVD-ROM drive to rip as it cuts down on the wear and tear on the Sony.
I would assume that most DVD writers can't rip as fast as normal DVD-ROM drives, but I am not sure of this.Use what works for you... -
the firmware on all dvd-recordable drives seems to limit the rip speeds to 2x. the pioneer currently has a firmware hack which removes the limit, and I'm hoping the sony will soon too!

Thanks guys
It's good to know that I'm not the only one having this problem, will get a DVD-ROM drive to rip
