I wanted a cheap multi regional machine, so i got myself a Pioneer 305, and in general i am well happy with it.

but i have hit a problem

movies that where DVD5, i just copied with DVD-Decrypter, and they played just fine, moves that where DVD9 that i ripped, demuxed, and burned with Nero, just wont play, and they played fine on my old Sony

i have tried Nero Versions 5.9.9 and 5.9.14

    but they dont work.

any ideas or suggestions on what software to use ?? is this a know problem with Nero ??

    thanx in advance

  2. Ive NEVER had probs with Nero but there are plenty of posts in here from people who have who will no doubt tell you to chuck Nero in the bin n use something else. Nero has made many changes to the DVD Video burning process to make discs more compatible so you may wanna visit the Nero site n get the ltaest version, you should be eligibile for a free upgrade.

  4. The problem is nero's version. I have tried those version and the udf system has several flaws and so my standalone dvd coudn't read the dvd burned with nero. Just download the lastest version to solve the problem.

@ATHLON I have a pioneer dvr-104 and as a fellow Glaswegian I wish to show you how I burn mine with nero.

HOW TO BURN A MORE COMPATIBLE DVD WITH NERO (DVD-ROM UDF/ISO)

    1.open nero and close wizard
    2.in new compilation choose DVD(obvious),dvd-rom(udf/iso)
3.under iso tab choose only iso level1 and iso9660 (tick these boxes, leave others blank)
4.under udf tab tick the force compatibility mode box and this greys out the physical
    partition portion(this is ok)
5.hit the new button at the left hand side and drag and drop your VIDEO_TS and
AUDIO_TS(empty folder) to your new compilation
6.hit the burn button and when the dialogue box appears(to set write speed etc) hit write.
7.YOU should now have a disk that should play on your set top dvd player.
WHEN I DO THIS I CAN GET THE DISKS I DO TO PLAY ON MANY SET TOP BOXES AND PS2'S.
THE ONLY TIME I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED PROBS IS WITH PLAYERS THAT AREN'T MULTI-REGION.I also
use the latest version of nero when available.

    Hope this helps.

    i hear ya,

but the DVD5 rips are just straight ahead ISO images made with DVD-Decrypter, and BURNED with DVD-Decrypter, the DVD9 arnt, they are burned with Nero, so it must be that. I have just downloaded Nero 5.5.10.20, so this should help. Has anyone used this version ??

Naebothir DVDJET, all the very best !!

I'm sure that dvd decryptor actually uses the nero burning engine anyway,I think it uses udf 1.02.I'm using the latest nero 5.5.10.20 at the moment and have done at least ten disks since, using the method posted earlier.
    ALL were successful

Ps: go to priceless computing at 45 commerce street,Tradeston for cheap disks, their website is www.pless.co.uk

DVDJet, I would go into Priceless, but i used to work for them !! i was in thier "Technical" section, doing builds and repairs and help desk, maybe we have even met !! so my technical knowledge is really quite good

i use EXACTLY the system you point out below, and i get discs that play on my Sony315, but not my new Pioneer 305. It must be Nero.

have 5.5.10.20, will try that, is that what you use ??? maybe i should just go up to the Barras buy some movies !!

I have seen many, many posts elsewhere where people have encountered
trouble playing disks on their standalone Pioneers, they don't seem to like disks authored by nero. The only other one I can recommend is RecordNow max to solve this problem.I don't use it but my cuz uses it all the time with good results he says.
Interesting to know that you used to work in Priceless,we've probably come across each other before.I also appreciate that you Must have considerable knowledge about PC's if you worked there.
The barras films are usually of crap quality and usually need to be ripped and redone to get them playing right.Better to visit Global video although they are not the latest they are of good qaulity and fairly recent.
    I'm currently using nero 5.5.10.20

  13. Nero keeps changing my aspect ratio, 4/3=16/9 Wide screen full screen, is there a way that i can change that in nero?

  14. Hi,i have had no problem playing dvd-r burnt using nero in udf mode,i use nero enterprise edition, all discs played on my pioneer home player [recent model],but i found these same discs wouldn't play on other dvd players, whereas discs made with with prassi did,for the majority of time that i have done dvds, about a year,i have used prassi and am back using prassi again as i don't think nero is as good for dvd films.
    p.s:also a glaswegian

I think that it probably depends on what program seems to be the most compatible with each brand of dvd player.I've heard people shouting about which prog is the best but in the end I think it's just a case of finding out which best suits you & your dvd player.Alternatively you could use a tv-out video card, although it is not the same it can save the day if your desperate to watch a certain dvd.

    played effortlessly

    must have been Nero !!

now i have this new thing where my Pioneer 305 dosnt have the picture exactly in the middle of the screen, but thats not just ripped movies, its originals as well, and thats another forum ... :P

Glad you had success with stomp,my cuz swears by it.He's got a pioneer standalone and it never played anything done by nero but since using Stomp he's had no prob's.Where did you buy your standalone player from,I always go to Richer sounds just a short distance from priceless as I find it cheap and they also do multi-region players,I guess you probably know about that but.
Can't help with the picture problem though, but if you haven't already tried go into the dvd set-up option screen and see if there is anything there regarding picture size, widescreed etc.
I actually stay not that far away from you I think(crookston) and wonder if you know anyone fae govan called "Watret" costhats my brotherinlaws family.

All I can suggest is to upgrade to latest version 5.5.10.20 of nero to see if it works better for you. They are "supposed" to have fixed various dvd issues with it.I've never experienced this problem before, good luck.

I use nero's DVDvideo template, drop the contents of my authored DVD VIDEO_TS folder into neros VIDEO_TS folder and burn. Plays fine on my Pionner DV-F727 player. This works for DVD2One, Instant Copy (after using pditools) and any authoring package I've tried.

    I'm using 5.5.10.20.

  27. For all Nero users:

Maybe your dvd´s burned with Nero works on your standalone DVD player, but i´m sure that these recorded DVD-R will not work on all DVD players. Mine (Philips 612) plays very well Nero burned disk´s, but the same disk on Thomson 5000 and Daewoo 8000-K dont play at all. (tried all kind of metods, udf settings, wizards, etc with dvdRW media)

If you only care of your own film collection, thats ok, but if you are planing on to record films for your friends, be aware of the posible incompatibility of Nero with some players.

Pd: I use Nero to burn the images created with dvddecrypter, and imgtool with no problems at all. These are AUTHORED iso image files.

if you burn a fully compliant DVD on good playback media then Nero DVD's work just fine in any player as long as it accepts the media you have burnt on as certain types as naff (the light dye Bulkpaq for example) and you use a version of Nero that is proven to work as some do have problems

I have the mother of all fussy DVD players here in my Sony and it work's just fine with Nero DVD's as well as the other brands of players my relatives and friends own that I have tried them in, add to that quite a few I tested in shop stores when purchasing a new DVD player also

playback failures are more to do with the following than to do with Nero

    1. ripping method
    2. stripping
    3. processing and rebuiding
    4. media used

I disagree when people say Nero cannot burn DVD's and this is probably because they have had failures. Easy way out I say, just the same as the IC7 saga, some people slag it off because it involves more than a BIG RED BUTTON to press, and they cannot get it to work properly. It's the same for everything in life

but overall the choice is upto the user so use whatever's best for you

luckily Nero work's just fine for me and has since Day 1 but may not be the best option for someone else due to certain factors. Creating ISO's etc is just a waste of time for me when I can just drag n drop then burn in seconds

    Nero DVD burning Guide
