  1. Didn't see a thread on it yet so thought I'd mention it.

    http://www.mrbass.org/dvdshrink/dvdshrink23.zip

    official homepage http://www.dvdshrink.org

    Version 2.3 - 14 June 2003

-- Fixed bug in re-author module which occurred in certain DVDs with a strange PGC structure. This bug caused dvd player to freeze or lockup at specific points in the movie.
--Added support for 64bit file sizes.
--Added support for opening files generated by IFOEdit software.
--Fixed bug which caused analysis to crash if input video stream is corrupt.
--Attempt to make "Remapping VOBS" stage more reliable, even if there are errors on original DVD.
--Added automatic "retry" (4 retries) if read from disk fails.
--Fixed error in .IFO file output: vtsi_mat_ea, vts_tmapt_ea.
--Fixed bug where video could be corrupted in some rare situations (vobu containing more than one sequence header).
--Tweaked video encoder module, now slightly faster.
--Fixed bug in "Still Pictures" mode, picture temporal reference is now set correctly, and sequence end code is always written.
--Added "Total Processing Time" information to finish dialog.
--Added support in "Preferences" for combining titles which overlap or share the same video in the DVD View. This prevents confusion where a compression level applied to one title also affects another, because they share the same video.

  2. Thanks for the link, mrbass, and more importantly, a big thank you for your contributions to the "DVD Backups" community.
Your guides, download mirrors, and posts in the forums are very much appreciated, I'm sure.

Again, I get wary when software has numerous releases in small timeframe. At this rate, I'll keep watching until it gets to 2.9999. I'd like to go back to using it, but just not good enough YET as compared to DVD2one.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

MR.BASS,your zip file seems to be corrupt. I unzipped it and created two files but when I double-click the .exe, nothing happens. The program doesn't execute.

  6. wulf109, I've just downloaded and installed v2.3 from mrbass link.
    It is working fine.
Maybe you should give it another try.

txpharoah, have you actually tried v2.3?
If you haven't, I suggest you do. What have you got to loose?

  11. wulf109, what OS are you using?
There might be an incompatibility between v2.3 and your OS.

I downloaded the file from DVD Digest, that unzipped and ran without any problem. It's not my computer,Windows98ME,it's the link on MrBass's page.

Mr DVDshrink is improving his program in record time! At this rate we'll be up to 3.0 in no time.

  17. ok a few are commenting that we'll be on 2.99 and 3.00 before you blink your eyes. You could be right but I highly doubt it. Here's a synopsis if you haven't been following development, testing betas, etc.

    dvdshrink versions:
--2.0 [6 June 2003] introduce a entirely new interface but in some cases looked worse
    (level 3) than with 1.03

--2.1 [11 June 2003] lived for about one hour then 2.2 was released to fix a bug

--2.2 [11 June 2003] this was a huge major change where the compression algorithm was changed and 5% increments were implement. I am definitely impressed with this and think it's way better than 1.03.

--2.3 [14 June 2003] (I tested 3 different betas myself) and in paticular dvdshrink fixed this bug "-- Fixed bug in re-author module which occurred in certain DVDs with a strange PGC structure. This bug caused dvd player to freeze or lockup at specific points in the movie."

Will there be a 2.4 in a day or a week from now...there could be but as far as stability 2.3 is very stable and good. Should 2.0, 2.1, 2.2 have been betas....who knows..

  18. dvdshrink posted this...a hah...so I initially must have had the first version posted which didn't work with your win98 and then uploaded the 2nd version which does. Mystery solved.

"Ah - I was hoping nobody would notice!

There were actually two versions of DVD Shrink 2.3, about one hour apart. The first would not run on win98, hence the second. The second update to doom9 must have gotten lost somewhere, I'll send it again."

  19. I'm not sure what to think about all of these releases. I guess it is a good thing; means the product is being improved.

Just seems like they should be spaced futher apart.

No the less, I think this product is great.

  20. To me, the frequency of the releases only shows how hard-working Dr. Shrink is, and its eagerness to please his software users.

i don't think he really needs to please anyone, considering his proggie is freeware and he's making absolutely no money from it..not even in ad links or anything.

  22. i think a feature that would be so handy with all the new releases of DVD Shrink is a 'look for updates'. button. I have to completely remove previous release of dvd shrink and re-install the new version. Installing a new version gets a bit repetitive and it would make intalling so much easier if that type of feature was available.

I've never said he needed to please anyone.

What's easier than unzipping a folder? The only thing left to do is to create a shortcut if neccessary.

Yea i know but what i normally do is to extract the whole contents of the zip file and make a new folder called DVD tools in the Programe menu, In the DVD tools section i have dvd decrytor, ic7 etc etc. i just like to be organised and clean and know where everything is, thats why i ask for the update feature, it just becomes hassle when i have to remove install remove install, rename...

  25. kas187, I do like to be organized too.

All I do is unzip to a "DVD Ripping" folder, in my program files folder, than create a shortcut that I drag to my "True Launch Bar" ripping folder, which by the way is a great organizing and space saving tool.

  26. One feature I would like to see is the ability to read an MPEG file directly off the hard drive. This would be handy for compressing existing rendered projects and surely wouldn't take much re-writing of the software to impliment.

  27. Anyone know how to turn off video when it is caching a new DVD? I know that you can turn off video window when shrinking, but I want all video turned off except for if I choose EDIT video.

  28. az1284xx, energy80s, I do not want to take you away from the DVDRHelp forums, but your best bet is to post at the unofficial-official DVD Shrink forums.
It is moderated by Dr. Shrink himself.
