To each his own, but in my book there is no comparison between these two programs. DVDShrink wins hands down.

  2. I like kas187's "look for updates" idea and I'm glad that his wish has been granted. Unless you frequent this forum (or doom9, digital-digest), you may not know that a new version is available. I like DVD Decrypter, but I don't use it all the time so I don't follow it's development that closely. But when I used it last, it notified me of the new version update. Kewl..

  4. OT - Nero comes out with new verison every few weeks (and it's still as buggy as hell, IMHO). DVD2SVCD was coming out with new verisons about once a week for a while there too.

These are freeware programs written by guys in the sparetime. We're getting them for free. You could say they are releasing beta products. Or you could say that they re-lease programs that work 95%+ of the time, and fix bugs as soon as reported.

Nothing is ever perfect. And in my book good enough is good enough, while perfect is a pain in the ass and often not worth all the work. DVDShrink 1.3 and 2.3 seem to be rock solid. 2.0~2.2 had problems, they've been fixed. They were fixed quickly. Considering the how useful this program is (even more so with the preview window) and the cost (free). IMHO it wins hands down over the commerical programs which do the same job but jost 'much money'. Mind you I prefer to re-encode with CCE for DVD9 to DVD5 backups.

    YMMV

are you saying that freeware is fundamentally more buggy than payware? when i visited the dvdxcopy ($99) forums, every1 seems to be having problems with the program. IMHO, payware could easily have the same amount, or even more, bugs than freeware. dvdshrink has virtually given me no problems. it seems that dvdshrink's creator is working very hard to fix any bugs that come up, unlike some of the payware, who wait awhile longer between versions, making people live with the bugs of the current version.

  6. Sometimes appreciation is a better motivating tool than money.

    @ ddlooping:
Yeah, I just realized that. Didn't read the digital-digest link you provided until after I posted my response.

  7. When I try to play my movie after using this software is This DVD cannot be played in your region or something like that (I'm not sure because I'm not at the computer I used now).

I did not have that problem with IC.

I had to use DVD Decrypter to remove the RCE (is this the term?) protection in some IFO files.. Is there something I forget to do in Dvdshrink?

  8. DVD Shrink doesn't remove RCE protection

  10. Yesterday I tried to shrink Tripple X with V2.3 and both times the PC hung at around 2.7GB. Then I went back to V2.2 without a problem.

You may want to look into this.

  11. anosis, I'd suggest you post DVD Shrink's bugs at the unofficial-official forums.
