I recently purchased a Sony DVP-NC 600 5 disk DVD player which according to the specs, supports VCD. When I put any one of my VCD's into the DVD player, the VCD light turns on and it plays the VCD for a minute or two and then stops and returns to the DVD menu. The same VCD's play just fine on my DVD player in my PC. What's the deal, is the DVD player just not up to par, I have 30 days to return it so I'd like to find out what's wrong. The VCD's were burned using Easy CD-Creator 5 in NTSC format

well the problem is that the lead in on the vcd that you made is bad and sony's treat them as dirty cds
have you seen the message put the cd in again click to sceen 2 on your film and then rewind to the start of the film hopfully just after the part where the film stops .
the stop the film the sony will remember that films input now .
you should now be able to play the film from the start with out problems .
it does work i use a sony dvd4000d and have had the same problems .
please let me go to the loo

Haven't seen the message you are referring to, I'm going to try and burn another copy with some different options. Kind of strange though, I've made 3 VCD's with the same options specified, one works fine and the other two play for a minute or so and then stop. Mind you, all three play fine in the dvd player in my pc

  4. I just bough a Sony DVP-NC600B 5 disk yesterday (to replace my 6 months old DVP-S360).
it has no problem when playing vcd cd-r.
I use Nero to burn the cd-r (maxell) in a sony cd-rw driver.

I think maybe I'll try a different brand of CD-R and use TMPGENC to create the MPEG.

Asoitia, have you determined if the Sony can play SVCD or only VCD? Just wondering...

Haven't tried SVCD although according to the specs it should play them. I've tried several brands of CDR's and CD-RW's but they all do the same thing, play four minutes then stop. I'm trying to figure out whether it is the dvd player or my burner. I have a 3 year old HP CD burner and I'm using easy cd creator to make the vcd. I'm going over the circuit city today to try it on some other dvd players, if I have the same results there I think I'll replace my burner

I think I may have figured out what the problem is but I'm not sure how to correct it. The VCD that plays has the mpeg in the MPEGAV directory, the ones that don't play have the mpeg in the SEGMENT directory. I don't recall any options in easy cd creator to choose which directory the file is put into so I don't know how to fix it. The interesting thing is they all play on the dvd player in my pc

I have experience the same problem on a friends dvd player. Cor some reason it stops at the exact same point and just freeze. Figured out after a few test what the problems was.

    1. Resolution is wierd.
    2. movie file is corrupt (this was it for the most part)

I saw in another thread out here that if the VCD doesn't conform to the proper specs Easy CD-Creator will put the .dat file in the segment directory. What's weird is even the ones that have the .dat file in the segment directory play fine in the dvd player on my pc but only play for four minutes on the stand-alone player. The other thread I saw mentioned that if you create menus with Easy CD-Creator this issue goes away. I'd hate to see what happens if I try SVCD or XVCD, wondering whether Roxio isn't all it's cut out to be

Well I opted to try Nero last night and it burned the mpeg just fine. One problem, the vcd is 60 minutes long but after 35 minutes on my stand-alone dvd player it just displays a black screen. With Roxio it would actually stop but with Nero it keeps on playing. Not sure if that is a media issue or what

  13. If you can, try and test the VCDs you've created on a few other players? Then, hopefully you can determine if its an issue with media, or your burning options, or whatnot.
