like just about everyone else, i am having problems trying to author a dvd with a big mpeg file in dvd workshop. the mpeg is 3 hours long and is about 3.99 gb. i captured it with powervcr2. i loaded it into workshop and started to mark chapters, however, i found i could only go about 1hr 46minutes into the video! workshop would'nt let me go any further!
my problems continued when i tried to burn the mpeg to dvd. i got an error saying something like " i-frames do not match chapters" it would'nt let me burn.
after that i decided to leave out the chapters and try again. however, the finished dvd vobs came out at 4.5gb! to large for a dvd-r! i thought this might be because the audio was re-encoded, from 44.1 hz at 112kbps to 48hz at 112kbps but surly it would'nt gain an extra 500mb just for that. anyone know how i can fit this mpeg file onto 1 dvd with workshop?

i think powervcr could be the source of my problems. i tried capturing the video again at a lower bitrate so it would fit on the dvd but the file came out at about 6gb! i'm not sure why. i tried capturing again and it came out at 3.99 gb. however, no matter what program i played the file in, it would only go to 1hr 46minutes than stop.
looking at the settings i use in powervcr, i think i could be having this trouble because of the i-frames. i set both frame options to zero. next time i capture i will just leave them at their default settings. if that does'nt work, then i'll try having powervcr split the video after 2gb so i will have 2 parts. that might work. i'll post the results of my work here.

i've sorted out the problem with mpeg files coming out to big with powervcr. i simply left the i-frame settings on default. the files come out at the right size now. however i find it the largest file i can capture with powervcr is 3.99gb even though i set the limit in the reg to 6000mb. has anyone captured a larger file?
also when i put the 4gb file i captured into dvd workshop i found it took ages to mark the chapters- it seems workshop hates handling large mpeg files.
lastly i burnt the mpeg file to dvd.
the video was 352x576 and the audio had to be converted as it was only 44.1mhz. anyway i found the finished vobs came out at just 3.43gb! i thought mpeg files are supposed to get larger when you convert the sound to 48mhz! anyone know why it came out so small?
orginally the audio was 224kkb/s and it was converted to 128kbps mpeg audio but surly that can't explain why the file shrunk by so much?
