    i have a P3-450Mhz , 2GB HD , 64 RAM , Video Highway Xtreme 95 (bt84 , windows'98 SE .

I have been reading posts where people are desesperate because they capture sucks . they talk about high resolucions , vcd , svcd , dvd stuffs,( they talk about virtualDUB , i mean what they have on theyr brains , what a piece of shit )

    and i just say :

my god , what a piece of ignorants , i don't have no money , my computer sucks and i'm still fighting every day with my system been there in front of my tv , watching mtv capturing all my favorits music videos.

peoples with amazing systems , talking about GHZ , 256 RAM 40 Gb hard disk , and other people crying because they don't wanna pay more than 200$ for a capture card . But i understand .. they're afraid to buy a shit of card.

I'm from Venezuela & my english is not to good , i live in a poor country , we don't see stuffs like capture cards , and that things here . The faster PC here is a P3 800 Mhz 256K CELERON ( IS A SHIT ).

    -----------------

    I capture at 640x480 , 4000 Bitrate , 24 fps & i recompress all my videos to 720x480 CQ 3000 100% & a little of sharpness with TMPGEnc.

My Videos look amazing , i don't capture in more FPS & more Bitrate because my system start losing frames ( the transfer rate of my hard disk is 4.5 MB/sec ) i know is shit. but i'm a poor guy .

SO if you have a system a litte better than mine i'm sure your ready to capture at 29.97 fps in 6000kbits 640x480.

contact me on ICQ 4065442 & i will tell you wich configuration and wich programs you need to make a decent capture possible.

i'm tired to see people crying in this forum.

lucky those who have lot of money.

The only problem with DMA on my machine is quite wierd and would definitely want to fix i have an FYI Via 598 (MVP3)
Motherboard and when i turn DMA on on my 13.6GB 7200RPm Seagate HDD Windows won't boot up anymore i can have it turned on on my 4gb HDD.
I have got the latest drivers for my motherboard

i have a via MVP3 (epox brand mvp3-G5) and i got DMA to work just fine. i used the v4.29 VIA 4-in-1 pack and win95, 98, and ME (not 98SE, though i'm sure that works better than 9. install the 4-in-1, then turn off the viagart.vxd AGP driver (or boot step-by-step and say 'no' to i). boot a couple times to make sure all the mobo hardware installs, then try the DMA through device manager, not the VIA DMA Tool.

    hope this works

if it doesn't, try http://www.viahardware.com, or maybe update the BIOS. also, make sure you've got a UDMA 80-wire cable on the drive, or that can cause slowdowns/lockups too.

    Thanks for your response
Ive found the fix to solve the problem from seagate they have excellent service to responded within a day. and said to run the ata100d util and check if the hdd is set to ata33 so i did and my hdd was set to ata66 so i changed it to ata33 and dma worked but system does lockup some times, i will try your idea and get the 80 wire to see if that fixes the lockups.

    Thank you

  5. You means the seagate software change the operating mode of the HD ?
I heard some PC can detect the wrong mode of the HD can cause problem,
is this the same problem ?

  6. On easy way to improve capture is by using CTRL-ALT-DEL to turn off EVERYTHING that is running in the background (like ANTI-VIRUS, ICQ, AIM, etc.) and leave only EXPLORER and your capture software running. The less the CPU has to do during capturing, the better the capture.

  7. For a whole article on tweaking your system, go to http://www.3drage.com. I'm running W2Ksp2. After implementing these tweaks, re:disabling all overhead system services I don't ever use, my SANDRA scores increased and I can capture DV without dropping a single frame.

when i brought my seagate hdd 13.6gb ata66 it was set at ata66 and my system can not do ata66 only ata33 so it could not work with dma turned on. when i found out i had to get a program from seagate (uata100d.exe) and change it down to ata33 so my system can use it with dma turn on, which solved that problem but now it's locking up when i run certain programs like virtual dub etc i tryed putting the 80 conductor cable in and that didn't solve it either.

    any ideas?
