Error Reading log file HELP!

I am so sick of all these programs. I am trying to convert the vob's that i ripped, into and avi, but every single application i download to do this gives me some kind of error message. These programs include but are not limited too: DVDx, DVD2AVI, VirtualDub Mpeg version etc... EVERY ONE! The most common of these is Error Reading Log File. I also get auth.dll Authentication error... And hundreds of other ones. I need help on how to fix this Log file error, I have spent two days trying to convert the same two DVD's to avi with no luck. I have followed every single guide out there but i get unexpected results. Im relying on someone out there who has the answer. Someone help me please. Im sure everyone out there knows how frusturating this can be. Especially when there are 30+ guides for the exact same thing and no one can seem to agree on one method.

UPDATE

Its seems to only happen when I use Divx 5.0.3. It encodes fine with Xvid or Mpeg4 v2 but im getting audio video synch problems.
