Yes...there is your problem.....it's called Nero.
    Use ImgBurn instead.

thanks for your advice, I realize nero has it's issues. It's the only authoring program I have and that has worked very well with my PC. i have been using this same nero program to create the same type of dvd projects for about 3 months and no problems like this. The only problem with the program you refer is that, I need a program that will allow me to author the dvd also, it's a combination of various sources of video, custom title screens, etc.

I will check into ImgBurn for other applications. It is not going to let me burn the projects I have created in Nero 8 is it?

Right now, anyone who is familliar with the Nero problem, please advse. I have 2 projects saved that I just recently finished... that took me hours to have ready to burn to computer and then hopefully to DVD-R.

Output your creations to your HDD...then burn it with ImgBurn. Whether it gives you DVD folders or an ISO image...use ImgBurn.

Pardon my ignorance but I'm not sure how to save the created dvd plan to HDD other than what i'm trying to do with Nero, I write it to C drive direct. However, I know it offers to save the creation also as Image... I will try that after work, and then try ImgBurn. Am I on the right track? thanks so much for your inputs!
