finally after 6 tries, it worked. I did gladiator (155 min) and fit it on 2 cd's. The 78 min./cd svcd I made looks a lot better than my tmpgenc 40 min vcd./cd. I'd like to try the world is not enough (128 min) tonight. I did a 4 pass with gladiator and it took to long for me. would a 3 pass be worth taking a little quality down for a few extra hours? (I'm not a critic on how good it looks, just if it's alright).
also, I hate the 16:9 view. can I change to 4:3 and keep it looking decent? thanks

1) I use 3pass VBR all the time, no problem. For bitrates ~1200 or less I use 4.
2) If you don't like 16:9 (for some odd reason) just manually put in 4:3 in the DVD2SVCD setup and that's what you'll encode
Aside - there's a fairly good (if not as freindly) forumn about DVD2SVCD at doom9.org -
ok, thanks. I use 4:3 because my dad usually watches the movies I make on a 19' TV (we're poor
). both he and I hate the 16:9 because it only takes up half the screen and we can barely see anything. so using 4:3 is what I'll do from now on.
