Instant Copy - got to be easier way.

When I use Instant Copy to back up a DVD, I use the following:
1. DVD Decrypter to rip to HD
2. Instant Copy to encode to fit on one DVD
3. pdi2iso - to get an one big .iso file
4. DVD Decrypter to burn that .iso file out to DVD. This then plays on a standard DVD player.

Is there an easier way or a way I can eliminate step 4 to use RecordNow Max to burn instead???

If you use recordNowMax or Prassi primo DVD

Then you can just do steps 1 and 2 then burn

Use Data mode and just burn the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to a dvd

You need to use PDITool to extract the contents of your pdi, check www.doom9.org for this file. You can then burn using any software you like

Instant Copy outputs 4 .pdi files, how do these burn out using RecordNow Max?
Do I just put these 4 in a VIDEO_TS file and burn that out???

yep.........
stick a dvdr in the drive and output to dvdr........its taking a chance i suppose....if copy is borked.....but i have not had a bad convert yet with instant copy

when using pdi2iso, you only need to select the first pdi file in order for the program to convert all 4 pdi files to one iso. You should then be able to use almost any burning program to burn the dvd. You said you used DVD Decryptor to burn the dvd, this can't be right... which program do you use? I use instant cd+dvd, and it works perfectly.

2. Open Instant Copy, change size for extras, delete subtitles and certain audio and save to HD. (I tried to use IC to copy to DVD, but both times it failed with my Sony DRX-500UL, so no more of that)
3. Use pdi2iso to get one giant .iso file
4. Use DVD Decrypter, change Mode to ISO --> write and then proceed to burn the .iso file to DVD. This has worked every time I tried it...

But I think I am getting from this post that I can substitute step 4 with using any DVD recording software, like RecordNow Max??? Is this right?

I guess what I don't understand is what is the big .iso file that I create after running the .pdi files through PSI2iso?
Does this file contain the VIDEO_TS and related files? If so then I can just burn that out to DVD using anything, right?

yes, i have used nero to burn the iso image which was converted from pdi.

I don't understand why you have to go from a PDI to ISO.

I use InstantCopy to make an image to my harddrive, and if I want to test it, I use the PDI to burn to a DVD-RW. If I'm feeling that the quality is there for that series of DVD's I'm backing up, I'll just output the rest straight to DVD-R. Seems to be compliant with all my standalones, and they just released a patch to include an audio_ts folder in the burn if that's the problem you were having.

Likewise & like the title of this thread the easy way is to not bother converting the PDI file to ISO but just do what is intended and burn to disc & if you want to check quality then like GreyDeath said use a RW,this may take an hour & am not sure how long it takes to convert PDI to ISO but this must be the easier route to take..

NO don't put the pdi files in a folder and burn.

After you have gotten your pdi files just open instant copy select source as Hardrive and browse to your pdi files. and then simply click target as burner and start that easy !

only need to use the PDI tools if
a. you want to check your encode on your hardrive before you burn
b. you would like to use something other then Instant Copy to burn

although I don't know why you'd use something else to burn if you have a good idea on what your quality is goin to be

1 just rip all file to HD
2 run IC7 choose IFO from HD set detination as your burner and thats it,it will do the burn for you when the encode is done.

Some people were having problems with the orig IC7 because it wasn't creating an AUDIO_TS folder and wasn't playing in some players & i think im corect in asuming using the PDI to ISO was a way to get the around that and get a more compliant copy.Now with the AUDIO_TS folder fix in the latest update for IC7 there is no real use to use the PDI to ISO tool.

I believe this is the trial version, but the real version is on the way. Should I just wait until I get the "real" version or will the trial version burn to DVD?

If you couldn't get IC& to burn then that is why then you would need the PDI to ISO tool as i dont know of any other burning software other than IC that would burn PDI files.I had the trial version and that burnt just fine so i don't know why it ins't for you.I can't give any advice on the PDI to ISO tool as i havn't tried it and don't need to.

I needed pdi2iso b/c IC will not burn to my RW discs for some reason. pdi2iso only takes like 4 minutes to complete. I then use the .iso file to in nero to burn to RW.

You can use PDITool [this has options for both ISO and VIDEO_TS folder extraction in one tool] and convert your .psi into a VIDEO_TS folder then add an empty AUDIO_TS so it will burn with anything you like [maybe not NERO??] but then what will. If this is hard I would hate to explain a complete Re-encode/Author??

Never said it was hard, I just wanted to find out if I was doing the backup thing wrong with IC...

I have had great success with DVD2ONE and capturing, encoding, and authoring my home DV movies, I just was having to do like 4 steps to use IC.

It's all good, I was just looking for alternatives.

If your are ripping an ISO from a DVD5 with DVD Decryptor why would you want to burn with Recordnow Max? Just use DVD Decryptor to burn the ripped ISO to disc.Start DVD Decryptor then mode ISO write click on your source button & point at the ripped ISO make sure ypur dvd burner is your destination & away you go

When I tried it and then put the DVD in my DVD player on my PC, then went to My Computer the DVD drive thought it was a CD and not a DVD. Is there some setting in RecordNow Max I need to change? I only have the trial of Max, but it said it was fully functional with the exception of DLA...

Just trying to figure this whole DVD backup thing.

I have not burnt an image before with RNM but i have just started it up and it does have an image button,surely its just a matter of clicking the image button then droping your ISO image and burning. When you tried buring was it in data disc mode?

Yes I did do data and that is why it basically just copied the whole .iso file as it was...
I am trying now using Image to a RW.
