S-video output should be the same from device to device (pc or DVD). Its a standard. I would check the following:

    1. make sure you have a good s-video cable

    2. I've seen video played in PowerDVD that looked great when viewed on a TV. What is your software player?

    3. your video card could be defective

  4. Yes. Try using PowerDVD or WinDVD. There are a few freeware players that may also give a better picture. Check the TOOLS section on the left.

Don't force your card to resize the video on the fly. Your TV can't display 1024x768. It can't really display 800x600. Are you confiured for dual output? I have my best results by configuring my TV out as 640x480 at 60 hz. It also doesn't do very well as a #2 monitor because most of my players use DirectX and DirectX doesn't like dual monitors.

So, my optimum TV-Out is with the TV at 640x480 @60 hz in 32 bit color as Primary monitor. It truely sucks to have to change, but it looks pretty dam good only in that configuration. I can re-configure on the fly in W2K, so it's a 20 second settup procedure. I run dual cards, but W2k doesn't really care if it's dual cards or 1 card with dual outputs.
