  1. Is anyone experiencing the problem that I am facing when buring DVDs with Nero 5.5.10 and my Sony DRU500A (version f firmware). I am using the Nero DVD settings ISO/UDF, no Joliet, UDF 1.02 as outlined in previous posts.

At the end of a DVD burn, Nero says it has finished and is at 100% but it still indicates that it is writing the lead-out. There is no disk activity on the DRU500, so I assume Nero has actually finished but for some strange reason the software is not returning control. I have waited at least 30 min and the program still doesn't return control. The program is not even using any cpu cycles and is idle at this point. I always have to manually delete the program in the Win2K task list and reboot. The message I get back from Win2K is that the program is actually waiting for a response. So I'm figuring that the program is trying to display a dialog box but is prevented from doing so.

Anyway after all of this, the resultant DVD plays fine on both my PC and on my standalone player. The only annoyance is that I have to kill Nero and reboot all the time. I also use Recordnow 4.6 DX and I have no problems with it. I would use Recordnow all the time but Nero tends not to be so picky if the VIDEO_TS directory is not 100% DVD compliant i.e. after a DVD-9 to DVD-5 rip.

    Anyone got any ideas?

Have you tried an older version of Nero?

FYI, I'm running WinXP Pro, Nero 5.5.10.0 and have a Sony DRU500A (d firmware), no problems with finishing writing jobs.

Maybe it's the firmware difference? If you backupped your old firmware you might want to return back to d firmware, as I heard that f gives more problems (but i'm not sure)

  3. I have tried Nero 5.5.9.17 and I still get the same problem. I haven't tried going back regarding the DRU500A firware though. Not sure I want to risk it.

It certainly is a strange problem considering Recordnow Max Dx 4.6 works with no issues at all.

  4. 5.5.9.17.0 or 5.5.9.17.1 ? There was problem with .1 version and closing +R disks. Try 5.5.9.17.0 (try search here on "Nero 559170")

  5. I'm using DVD-R and I get the problem. I have checked the "about" option and nero.exe and the version I have is 5.5.9.17.

Note: As I said earlier, the disks are getting closed because they play fine on both my PC and on my standalone. It is just that the program is not returning control for some bizarre reason. Also, I do not have the problem when using RecordNow DX 4.6.

  6. Is there a problem with Nero 5.5.10 when closing DVD-R disks? Note: I do not use DVD+R disks.

I have tried this version and I still get the problem as outlined in my original post. Note I do not get an error message, it's just that Nero does not prompt me to say it has finished closing - even though it clearly has done.

BTW - Using version 5.5.9.17. (O or 1) does not help me at all.

I am seeing the same problem here, but only on DVD-RW media, and only when burning short test files. Not sure if it's a Nero problem, as I have had it happen with other buring programs too. Doing a full erase fixes the disk so it does not happen again.

  9. I too have this problem and read somewhere that it may be media related. It happens to me on Accu DVD-R. When I burned to Verbatim DVD+RW, Nero finishes the lead-out with no problem.

Has anyone of you who have this problem figured out a solution? Maybe the newest version of Nero (5.5.10.7) may work? A reboot is quite annoying just to get the disc out. Been using RecordNow DX 4.5 to burn DVD backups -- I may stick with it as it does work.

  10. I have had the same problem too with my sony dru550a and nero. If i use infinite dvd+r i have no problems but when i use dvd-r disc i too get problems either failed to finalize or fail to write dao. Its always at 97% to lead out i get the problems. I have put it done disc its says that the disc are 4.7gb but i am not quite sure they are. Because i used alcohol120% to make image (4.34gb) but when i put in blank DVD-r it says not eough space on disc but when i replace it with a DVD+R it will start to burn.

  11. xyz, It is 4.34GB. Difference is that in comp. calculation we are using 1k=1024 and what is on disk is calculated as 1k=1000.

I am having this exact issue with a similar setup. Sony 500A G and F firmware and several itterations of Nero 5.5.10 with ACCU DVD-R's. Discs are unable to complete lead-out, but seem to play fine.

Anyone come up with a solution to this error?
