    hi everyone
from the extensive searching that i have done on this site i have read that my card does not support virtualdub because of the wdm drivers. has anyone had any experience with the WDM VFW Wrapper program that i found in the tools section. does this over come the problems? also when recording this uncompressed avi file. how big is the actual file say for 30mins of video?

    Thanks

  2. I'm using that card with WinXP to do VirtualDub filtering. Haven't tried to capture with Vdub. For capturing, I use the WinTV PVR that came with my card. I added the Huffy codec which is a free download (look under tools on this site).

    thanks for the reply
so if i download huffy i should be able to capture using wintv pvr. then encode if i want to usinf tmpgenc to mpeg then edit it. is this correct.
how large is the avi file if capturing using huffy?

  4. Yes. I capture at 352x480 (NTSC) Huffy (as AVI). 60 minutes requires about 15 Gbytes. I edit the AVI file with Studio 8. You might be better off doing your editing with the AVI then converting to MPEG when done. I don't use Tmpgenc.

  6. The quality is adequate for my purposes. That is, it doesn't seem to be quite as good as my original tapes (8mm video), but the unwashed masses (my family) don't complain. I can greatly improve their appearance (the DVDs, not my family) by filtering with Virtual Dub, but wonder if this is wise (see my topic under Newbies "Filtering: Now or Later").

  7. Peter,

Huffyuv is a lossless compression scheme...meaning it does not discard any of the information in the original source.

This codec is good for the reason of no quality loss and easy editing afterwards....
