  1. My computer currently has a 20gb hard drive which severly limits my ability to do anything with digital video, and so I have ordered a new 40gb hard drive. I would like to add it as a second hard drive so that I don't have to reinstall everything, and so that I have 60gb of total storage instead of 40. I checked things out while installing my DVD burner, and it looks as though I will have to connect the new hard drive to the motherboard using the second connector-thingy on the ribbon that my original hard drive is connected to. If I understand correctly, I will have to set one of my hard drives as a slave so that the computer can tell them apart, but do I have to change any of the settings on the original hard drive? When installing my DVD burner I set it as the slave, and didn't do anything to the DVD drive that I already had in there. Was I correct in doing that, or should I have changed the settings on those, too? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanx.

  2. I installed a 2nd drive as well recently. No don't do anything to the 1st drive. Install the 2nd as slave.

  3. Although you have installed a second drive it is not like having one hard drive with 60g storage space. Without raid technology what you have are two separate drives. One with a 20g storage space, the other with 40g.

  4. It all depends on the hd. Check the settings {most of the time it's on the top of the drive. } Sometime you have to change the jumpers if you add another hd. If you still have questions go to hd website.
