  1. twice i've tried to back up my copy of lord of the rings, the extended version. each time when i go to burn the vcd's i come up with one that is slightly out of sync. the first time it was disc no. 3. the second time it was disc no. 2. the converted mpeg files all play perfectly. i only encounter the problem when i put the files to disc. so it won't do me any good to adjust the file on my computer. unless maybe if i put the suspect file out of sync by moving the audio ahead of the video by the same amount that it lags on the disc, this will compensate. what do you think? this is the second time i've posted this problem, no responses last time. i would sure appreciate someone's input here. thanks in advance.

  2. What program do you use to burn the VCD's?

Also, do you have seperate mpegs for each disk, or are you letting your burning program cut them up for you?

  3. i burn with nero 5.0 and edit each dvd into 2 mpeg files of around 60 min. each. i use tsunami to convert and edit the files. this is the first time that i have had any problem with audio sync. has always come out perfect in the past.

  4. Ok, i'm probably shooting in the dark here, but have you cut the mpegs at key frames?
Thing is, your software mpeg player (prob windows media player) may be able to play problematic mpegs, whereas your hardware mpeg player (your DVD player) may not.
This could be way to simple an answer, but if you havnt already tried it, try playing the VCD on your pc - open the .dat file in windows media player. If it plays OK, (or even if it doesn't - what the hell) try using TMPGenc, its obviously top choice around here.

Probably useless information, but if knowone more advanced than me (where are you moderators?) responds, its worth a go

  5. the out of sync vcd plays the same on my computer as well as my stand alone player. as far as where i've been making my cuts in the files before burning i've always tried to edit them at a moment of transition.(tried the key frame thing with virtual dub, didn't like the results) so as you suggested i've always used tmpgenc for my editing. but as i said this is the first time i've had this problem. i ended up ripping my original rings dvd(the standard issue), and cut the portion that was giving me fits, and used it to burn with the extended version ripped files. guess what, no problems at all from the original dvd. so i got what i wanted but had to take the long way to get there. i appreciate your input and time though, thanks greatly.
