I downloaded some episodes of The Red Green Show, but the audio is out of sync. I've already tried using an audio delay to play it, but it never quite syncs up. It starts to, but then it goes out of sync again. The strange thing is if I play it in a media player app, it starts out of sync; however, if I fast forward the file by clicking on the 'seek' bar a little bit, the audio syncs back up. Then I can 'seek' back to where I was. However, it seems to go out of sync at scene changes, but 'seeking' forward then backward fixes it again. Any ideas on how (or even if) I can fix this? Thanks.

No, but I've tried WMPlayer and Nero Showtime, but they both have the same problem. I used another app to try to adjust the sync, but I can't remember the name of it right now. I'm just not sure what to do. I tried converting it to DVD using ConvertX, but that didn't work well either. I will try the above suggestions -- hopefully that will work. Will they work if the audio goes in and out of sync like my file seems to?

I am having the exact same issue with some video files of my own, and they do the exact same thing in all media players... They are all the AVIs and they all seem to go out of sync towards the end... I have tried adjusting the delay and the fps in Virtual Dub but this only alters the beginning of the video.

I have read somewhere about variable bit rate video files but to my knowledge AVI is only a constant rate file? Is there any way to fix this issue either on the audio end or on the video end as it is so frustrating to have the sync work for the first part but not throughout the video.

  5. Bitrate has nothing to do with it

The frame right might (e.g. variable frame rate), but AVI doesn't support VFR, only containers like .mp4 and .mkv support VFR

Usually there are 3 scenarios: 1) constant delay and 2) progressively worsening delay 3) error points/discontinunities

The 1st case is easy to fix, just enter the delay to fix it - you can do this in avimux-gui for example

The 2nd scenario is harder to fix, this happens when you have different length video & audio. You can check durations in mediainfo. There are several guides if you search , essentially you strech or shrink the audio or video to match durations. Here is one guide: http://www.gromkov.com/faq/faq2004-0064.html

The 3rd scenario is tough, you usually have to process in segments, cutting out each error point

Read the section on audio sync repair,i do this for all my avi that has audio that gradually goes out of sync and audio that is constantly out of sync-
    http://www.johnisme.shawbiz.ca/avi.shtml

You can also use audacity to stretch or shrink the audio.

Since it is the Red Green Show, I am tempted to suggest a repair with duct tape. But first, I would have to go along with VLC Media Player, as Baldrick suggested earlier.

I tried some of the suggested media players, and they seemed to work fine. I wanted to burn them to DVD, but when I tried the audio was out of sych of course. VLC worked fine, but I can't figure out why WMP wouldn't work, or why I couldn't convert them to DVD. Any ideas?

Or... You could buy Red Green DVDs. That's the legal way.
