  1. What is the best dvd burner out right now? MEanign supports the most formats and fastest speeds and widest variety of compatibility.

    Thanks

P.S. if can provide links that would be great but if not the name should be fine and i can find it. Also what should I look for when buying a dvdburner feature wise.

  4. The most versitile DVD burner is the sony dru-500a.
The fastest dvd burner is pioneer's a05
So depends on what you mean by best.

What makes the 105 faster than the Sony 500a? They are BOTH 4x drives!

  7. I have the AOpen RW2412Pro myself. The info that it is $299 is high. I bought mine for quite a bit less than that as I remember. Anyway, the unit is very good. Used a lot of different media and they have worked fine, no problems. Played in two different dvd players (Apex) and also no problems.

  10. I like the SONY but have a Pioneer(cendyne) 105 and love it, the SONY is way OVER PRICED no matter what anybody in this forum says, look for pricing on the internet its between $340-$370(not counting DELL'S sale that ended months ago) Its not worth that kind of money, I got my 105 for $180 after rebate. I could get 2 pioneers for the price of 1 SONY.

Why would I want to write in both formats when my and my family's DVD players only read - format and why would any body would want to pay triple for the + media instead of the - media. Someone who bought a DVD player that only reads + media is the only reasons to get the SONY.

I would agree that the Sony is too expensive it only did exclusively DVD+R or DVD-R, however, it does both making it essentially 2 DVD burners in one. Either way, depending on which format will successfully win, you can't lose buying the SONY. I think most of the people bought the Sony (like I did) for that very reason. We have to have it all; We're sick, greedy, and selfish individuals

S1R1US, that is a very cool icon.

  12. I have both of these type of burner. The Sony is at work and the Pioneer is at home. Overall with my experience the Pioneer is better with the latest updated driver. Eventhose the Sony can do many other but then I don't used other. My main concern was burning DVD-R to play on Standalone dvd player. My favorite burning software is Ulead Video Studio v6.

If your not desperate for a burner right now, wait for the LiteON DVD release in a few weeks.

    Few weeks?

All you have so far is "according to executive Mr. XYZ, lite-on will release their multi-burner in 2Q 03" *many* months ago. Until I see a real press release or engineering sample I'm not gonna hold my breath. Also, you think it's gonna be 100% error free on their 1st try?

I expect at least 6 more months before that thing is in the "buy-able" position, availability-wise and technology-wise.

In a few weeks sounds like in February 2003. True?

It could be as late as six months to ten months from now.

Lite-On's NOT going to concentrate on DVD writers until 2004. It will continue to concentrate on CD writers and DVD-ROM drives in 2003. The next important market for Lite-On will be CD-R/DVD-ROM "combo" drives. Only UP TO a few millions of DVD writers will be produced by Lite-On in 2003 which is a negligible number considering there will be well more than 60 million CD writers produced by LG, Samsung, and Lite-On combined.

bah, A staples or officemax deal cyndyne for $150 is a no brainer deal.
Who cares what anyone will have available in the Future. I'm burning a shitload of DVD's right now and having a great time of it.

I had been waiting for 2 years. How much is enough? Someone is always going to come out with something better or cheaper in the future. The cycle never ends.

Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

I agree,I've used Nero and RecordNow DX but for DVD's VS6 is the easiest and fool-proof way to fit any DVD(DVD-5,DVD-9,DVD-10)and my old VCD's on one disk.

  23. Right now RWs are 2x max, the Rs give you 4x, but the media is harder to find and more expensive. So no drive will give you 4x on all 4 media.
