Hi, I'm currently looking for a CD DVD burner that won't let me down. I have an Alienware laptop that has Windows XP Pro. It has a 120GB hard drive and 4 GB of RAM w/ P4 3.6 GHZ processor. There are two internal CD DVD burners as well. I use a 500GB external hard drive for all my video. I edit with Sony Vegas 8 pro and DVD Architect.
The burners in my Alienware are optical QSI 24 times DVD. I want to either replace them with higher quality or add an external burner. I dont have SATA, but I do have four USB 2.0 ports and of course Firewire.
My question to you guys is; What do you use and what are your suggestions for a good high quality burner? I'm currently looking at the possibility of the Plextor external PX-716UF.
Your help, experiance and suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks, Ray

I have a Samsung SATA burner, but the Pioneer IDE burners are also popular.

Ummm.....The burners I do use/own....BENQ 1620, 1640, 1650, 1655, PIONEER 111L, 112, 212 (sata), LG-H62L, LITEON 18A1P (ripping only), SAMSUNG (all sata) 183L & S203B. The best internal drives at the moment are PIONEER 115D & SAMSUNG S203B (sata). I have many burners because there's always a different purpose for each drive. Some are better readers than others when it comes to reading discs that are scratched. Also some are faster readers & some have hacked firmware to use on certain drives to make them region free. Some drives have better write strategies for certain brands of dvd media. There's also tools to use with the different drives as well to have better write strategies w/different brands of media such as MEDIA CODE SPEED EDIT.

For a external burner I'd suggest getting a PIONEER or SAMSUNG as well.
