Hey I have a bit of a problem.
Right im using Pinoy2201's DivX ripping guide to convert a dvd to divx.
The only difference's are i'm using smart rip instead of DVD decypter and im using the latest software. IE DVDx 2.1 and the divx 5 codec.
Anyway, i get all my vobs and load the ifo file into DVDx, and it all seems ok. Now heres the problem.
If i compress with the ratio of 720x576 (PAL) its fine (frame rate is 23.976). But when I use 720x480 (NTSC) all I get is audio (when I play it in windows media player I get those dodgy audio picture tings). Can anyone help me please because I want to use the NTSC image ratio.
I live in the UK but im only gonna be watching the video on my computer and PAL looks rubbish on PC because theres boarders down the left and the right.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Right, i sorted the previous problem out. I used the lame mp3 codec instead and it works fine, now I have a new problem.
The aspect ration never seems right. Its at 720x480 (same as the source) but in dvdx, ive tried all the different zoom settings and there all slightly off. The closest is full(16:9....) but its still slightly squashed at the sides.
Can anyone help me please?
Thanks. -
I still can't get the picture to look right and its really peeing me off.
Can any one help, or does anyone know another program that can convert to divx as easily as dvdx? -
Hey. Im sorry to keep bumping but I still can't getit to look right.
There must be someone who can guide me in the right direction.
Thanks -
Here's the problem.
Your TV isn't square. That is, the pixels on your TV aren't square. The ones on your monitor are. Now what does this mean? It means if the picture looks a little stretched (tall skinny people) then it will look fine on your TV.
So, how does this apply to you? I've never had the problem, but then again I've never used DVDx. AVISynth or Vdub work just fine. Is the original PAL or NTSC? and what are you resizing it to? and is it really film or did you force it?
Used DVD2AVI to open your vobs. Do a file/save project. It will save a D2V project file and the audio track for you. Open up VFAPI( it's in the tools section) and open the D2V project file, then you will save this fake AVI file. It will only be a few KB. What it does is interface between your VOBs aand the AVI. You can now open the fake AVI in VDUB and do whatever you need to do to it.
Personnally I would De-Interlace, and smart-resize to 512x384. From here you can do 2-pass DivX 5 or Xvid. Piece-o-Cake, and many guides on how to do it. Never had a funny looking picture problem doing it this way.To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan
