PAL Divx to DVD+R problem

I followed the guide to rip the audio to a wav file and to convert the divx avi to a m2v and the result was an m2v file and a wav file (i kept it in pal mode so i didn't convert to ntsc) and i used ifoedit and burned it and it was all successful... the only problem is in my dvd player Philips DVD-711 it just goes to the stop screen and stays their but it says there's a dvd in the drive, and in my friends player it works but the video plays like twice as fast and the sound is normal speed, how do i fix this? and is this because i burned a pal movie? FYI it's Ali G In Da House movie.
