I am new to CCE and I am using the Doom9 guide for help. It is working well, but they do not go into multipass VBR settings. I have read here and other places that the quality really goes up if you use multipass VBR. So I was considering using 3 pass, but I am a bit confused on the AVG. MIN. MAX. settings. I wish to play the SVCD on my Pioneer 343. According to the DVD Players guide it will do 2500kbit. Is this max or average?
So basically with the above in mind what settings should I try first for the best overall quality of the SVCD or XSVCD to play on my pioneer?
Thanks for checking this post out,
Mark

2500kbit would be the max, but that might be before it takes audio into account. So if you have 224 audio, 2276kbit would be the max. You could put a low number for the min, like 400. The average depends on how much video you want to put on each cd. If you have like a 2000 average then you would probably fit 40 min on a cd, and with 1600 you can fit about an hour. You also lose quality with the lower bit rate. Do some more checking on this site, and download a bitrate calculator from the site so you can figure up the avg bitrate depending on how much video you want on each cd.

2500 kbps is the max bitrate, what the player can play properly. This will be the max rate you use in cce.
Calculate the average bitrate for example with FitCD. For example you have a 104 min movie and you wish to fit it on 2 80min CDs. So you can set the avg rate to 1868 (and 224 for audio). If you want to fit it on 3 CDs, you can use CBR2500. I assume you would want 2 CDs. Then select MPEG-2 VBR 3pass.
The rest of the settings depend on your source.
Do you have to resize? Which tool?
Do you add any other filters? which tool?
Which resolution do you want?
Is it an interlaced or progressiv source?
Is it an AVI file or a dvd rip?
Which version of cce do you use?
Do you have an Athlon or PIII?
PAL or NTSC?
Did you read the manual?
