  1. I have used Gold Wave to remove the pops and clicks using their filter and it worked well. What I need to know is how to remove the hiss and static without altering the sound drastically. I tried the noise reduction setting but got a new sound that sounded like someone talking through water. Anyone out there that can suggest how to do this in detail or possibly a new piece of software?

For all audio problems I use Cool Edit. For tape hiss use the noise reduction function. Make a selection with noise only and apply this to the complete audio. I've used it for all my vinyl to mp3's and now also for the audio part of my video's.

    Good luck and regards,

    Kees Janssen.

I've used wavepurity to get ride of audio noise from video transfers. I use it primarily to get rid of noise due to tracking problems.

It works great and it is about $50.

  4. Sonic Foundry's Soundforge also has a Noise Reduction plugin that works pretty good...I have used it succesfully to clear up hiss from VHS captures.
