I have a Direct TV system and the quality on the tv is quite good. I am interested in doing some captures and had considered using Virtual Dub with Divx 5.03 codec hoping to get the best quality capture that I could. Is this the best choice?

    thx.

Not if you want to make a VCD or SVCD. Try using Vurtual Dub and the Huffy codec - a link to the codec is in the tools section.

    Or, virtual VCR with Huffy.

but.... in an effort to decrease my file size, I intend to start
experimenting with high bitrate mpeg1. No great expectations.
