I got some files that when I play them in GOM or VLC I can hear the audio but the video doesnt work when I check it with Videoinspector it says that the video codec I need is RPEX. I searched and I cant find a page or anything about rpex anywhere. Anybody know anything about where I can gey the codec if it's legit.

  2. where you got the files might give a clue what they are. also try mediainfo and gspot to see if there is any other info. never heard of rpex.

A quick search on Google was not promising. Any time there is a "new" codec that you've never heard of, the odds are quite high that it's malware. Whatever these files are, you might as well delete them. If you install the codec they either won't play and you'll be infected or they will play but you'll still be infected after you install the codec. Either way it's just not worth it.

  4. I had an avi file blabla [RPEX2.1].avi it doesn't play the video only the sound
This is the info I get on various players:
zoom player Home Max v7.0 says: format avi, divx5, mpeg layer-3 decoder.

    Gspot says:
    Code:
video code DX50 name DivX 5.x/6.x
    Audio: code 0x0055 MPEG-1 Layer 3
    info 48000Hz 128 kb/s tot , Joint Stereo
    container:
    File Length Correct
    AVI v1.0
Interleave: 1 vid frame (33 ms)
    Audio frames: Aligned on interleaves
    Video: 62.3 MB (89.48%)
    Audio: 6.61 MB (9.49%)
    AVI Overhead: 737 KB (1.03%)
    User/Data:
    [JUNK] odmldmlh
    [ISFT] Lavf51.12.1
    [USER] Lavc51.40.4
    vlc media player 1.0.5 says:
    Code:
    stream 0
    type:video
    codec:DX50
    Resolution:640X480
    Display resolution:640X480
    frame rate:29.970029
    Stream 1
    Type:Audio
    codec:mpga
    channels:Stereo
    sample rate:48000 Hz
    bitrate: 128kbs
    on divx 7 pro player
    Video format Divx video
    audio format Mpeg-1 Layer-3Audio(mp3)(tag 85)

    WMplayer 11.0
    Audio Codec: Morgan Stream Switcher
    Video Codec: DirectVobSub (auto-loading version)
    winamp v5.572 says:
    Code:
    Metedata:
    field FOURCC Value
    tool ISFT Lavf51.12.1
    Track:
type Codec name Codec ID Description
    video MPEG-4 part2 DX50 640X480
    Audio MPEG Layer-3 55 128kbps
    Thats it

Seems that RPEX is a command line ONLY encoding and decoding tool. Checking the readme file text states two commands:

    Code:

    RPEnc.exe -mode [enc|dec] <input filename> <output filename>

The settings inside the file settings.ini are automatically read
    at execution time.
    example:
    ----------
    Encoding
    RPEnc.exe -mode enc in_file out_file
Encodes input video file in_file to RPEX and writes the results to the file out_file.
    Decoding
    RPEnc.exe -mode dec in_file out_file
Decodes input video file in_file from RPEX and writes results to the file out_file.
    ----------
This is the rpex codec installer my source RPEXInstallerV2.2.zip:

    -DELETED-

Since the origin and purpose of that codec installer is highly suspicious, those links been deleted from our site.

I cannot find any info that say this file has rpex codecs in it
but the rpexinstaller was with this movie
I even looked in the registery for rpex the only thing I found
was info of the the folder and contents of RPEX Video Codec V2.2
there is no ax, acm, or ocx for rpex like other codec on my comp
is this a real codec? or does this installer just some
    adware, malware, some hacking thing?

  7. ok sorry bout the zip links didn't know it was bad just thought someone brilliant would see it and figure it out, so other then your forsight on staring at the zips and not the question, I still cannot get a video just sound, all though I have all the codecs that each player states in the movie. gonna ask is there something embedded in the movie that is stopping me from seeing the video, like when you get wmv movies and they ask for a drm or is all the players reading the movie wrong in associated what codecs it has, is there a way to edit it to get the video to display in a player ( like a good program) to take out what ever is stopping my players fro display the video part and just the audio?

usually those malware video files that sound so inviting like grandma_moses's_xxx_desires.avi are just junk files with nothing in them. if it were really a video and the codec found by every program was dixv 5 then any player would play it. give up and move on.
