  1. hello!!!! I need help, please... I have authored my VCD with menu, intro, and chapters with numeric interactivity, and it works fine in my standalone player, but... when I have tried to play it in my PC (win98 and XP) it doesn't work, neither with WinDVD nor .dat files with media player... ! and the worst of all... I cannot copy the .dat files to my computer!! I get next message: 'not a valid MS-DOS function' !!!!

    anyone can help me?

    Thanks!

Media Player (tried just about all versions) CAN play .DAT files directly from the CD's MPEGAV folder--NO PROBLEM.

If you're having a problem, something else is probably the culprit. Could be DirectX corruption, some other codec interfering, NO MPEG1 codec installed (not likely unless you're still on original Win95), driver/OS conflicts, deleted components, background tasks usurping cycles, viruses...

All those sorts of problems should be sorted out anyway so that your system runs smoother.

    More Info, please.

  5. I know that Media Player can play dat files. But it does sometimes have problems with them. I have a heap of vcds of music videos, which are .dat files and I never had any problems playing them until recently. The latest vcds play fine for 15 or so songs, but there are always 2 or 3 songs that Media Player doesn't recognise.
I know it makes no sense.... the files are exactly the same as all the others, and if you play the vcd on a dvd player they all work perfectly. Even playing them on the computer using powerdvd, they work perfectly. But Windows Media Player refuses to recognise some of them. So it's a totally illogical problem .... but I know that it is a problem that does exist.
So all I can recommend is either try playing them using powerdvd .... or convert them using AVS videoconverter and then they should work on Media Player
