just plug the line out or headphone socket of the tape deck to the Line In on the sound card.
Wake sure Line In is selected on your Recording Volume control panel.
Use a wave recorder like Creative Wave Studio to capture the audio. There should be heaps of different ones around.
Nero Buring ROM even has a wave recorder I think.
I use Cool Edit Pro as it has filters for taking clicks and pops. I use that heaps when recording LP's to CD -
I've had great results using a walkman and stereo miniplugs (e.g., the ones used for desktop computer speakers to connect to soundcards).
Make sure you test the sound volume on your player (e.g., walkman) while being piped to your computer soundcard and speakers. Don't turn up the volume all the way which will cause distorted sound. I prefer to keep it slightly under the middle point (e.g., I use sound level 4 where level 10 is the highest volume). This will minimize static and cassette hiss.
Also, it helps if you turn on Dobly Noise Reduction (NR). This will just about eliminate the tape hiss.
I also use GoldWave (shareware with free trial) for recording. However, any sound app will do.
I don't recommend software noise reduction, unless you have a lot of time. It's worse than video noise reduction. After spending days trying to filter out static and wierd background noise, the result was a stuttery background noise. Maybe others have had more luck but software noise reduction is, for me, a waste of time. It will most likely sound worse and more distorted unless you have magical hands.
I recommend Dolby NR (on your tape deck) as the fastest and best quality audio noise reduction technique.
If you don't have Dolby NR, just make sure the tape deck's volume is a moderate to low level to minimize tape hiss/static. -
Once you get it on your PC edit with cool edit it can really clean up the audio sound and you can remove the hiss from a tape here is a link of how to clean up using cool edit [www.a-reny.com/iexplorer/restauration.html]
I restore tapes etc and have found this site to be very insightful and easy to use[/url]How long could we maintain? I wondered. How long until one of us starts raving and jabbering at this boy? What will he think then?
If you like Tekno download one of my tracks
