  1. In TMPGEnc I get this error message saying Can not read AVI file with DV format. From the FAQ's on TMPGEnc's site:

TMPGEnc can not read AVI file with DV format.
The file is probably Type-1 DV format. The format is not supported by TMPGEnc. Type-1format has different structure from AVI format. TMPGEnc can not read the format since TMPGEnc does not support DirectShow.
To solve this matter, try to save the captured or edited file as Type-2 DV format, however, there are still chance not to be able to read the file if you are using general IEEE1394 board without codec for VFW.

And yes, I have already changed the priority in my Environmental Settings for DirectShow Multimedia File Reader to 1. My question is: Since I guess I have to convert this thing, is how? Can someone recommend a program to use to convert this. Or another solution to bypass this error. I'd appreciate all feedback please.

Look in the TOOLS section. There are two freeware converters there.

  3. I would try putting directshow priority at +4 to see if it works.

I have TMPGEnc version 2.53 and have never upgraded. I can confirm that version 2.53 works with type 1 DV files.

Anyways, you can use DVapp or DVIO to capture type 2 files. You also need to install a DV codec such as the Panasonic DV codec.
