  1. How to watch avi movies in my portable philips dvd player that supports divx formats? I know I can convert them into dvd and then use them normally. I did it using iDVD and it worked fine. But I was wondering if there's a way to do it in divx format. I'm using a macbook pro and actually am new to it. Thanks a lot.

  2. Divx/DVD players usually support Divx or Xvid encoded video in an AVI or DIVX (an extended version of AVI) container (sometimes in an MP4 container too). Just burn the files onto ISO or UDF data DVDs. If your player has a USB port you can copy the files into a flash drive or external hard drive to play them. Be sure the drive uses the FAT format.

All you need to do is burn the avis to cd/dvd as data and then place the disc into the divx compatible dvd player, simple.

  4. thanks. I think i tried to just copy the avi to a cd and play it but it didn't work. Now that you're suggesting the same, I'll retry it. thanks again

With whatever program you are using to burn the avi files make sure the program is set to close the disc, or finalise. Other not so common thngs would be renaming the name of the avi file once it's been added to the cue and inadvertantly removing the .avi extension at the end.

  6. Thanks to all. It worked fine this time. Seems that not closing the disc caused the problem. thanks again!
