Hello!
I have just finished creating my first complete movie on an 80 min CDR. I ripped and encoded X-Men. I used a modified version of Shizzzons XSVCD template, (I highly recommend it - ok quality with 1 CD, very good if you use 2 CD's). I burned the image with Nero 5.5.1.8. The file on my hard drive was 804,192,260 bytes (file size obtained in MS-DOS). I over burned the file to CDR and the disk size was 923,796,378 (again obtained in MS-DOS). This is a signigicant difference.
Now I know, through researching the forums, why I was able to burn more than 700MB on the 80 min CDR, I think. Has to do with the Mode 2 setting. With Mode 1 you could only burn 700MB but Mode 2 allows you to burn more video/audio, right? But, why is the file size on the disk 923MB instead of 804MB which is what is on the computer? I recieved an error message while burning in Nero saying that the file was to big and it just stopped. When I played the movie in my APEX 5131 the movie played fine, but the movie credits (which I don't care that much about) got cut off. However, I am afraid in my next attempt the movie might get cut off.
I used the bit-rate calculator found in the 'Convert section' (How to encode to SVCD with TMPGEnc beta 12e+). The bit rate I used was 885Kbit/sec. A little grainy, but decent. The bit rate calculator suggested 890Kbit/sec (104Mins, 128kbit/s audio, with 1 80 min CDR) and I subtracted 5Kbit/sec to be on the safe side.
By the way, I was able to fit 98:04 mins on an Imation 80 min CDR (1x-16x) (Time display from DVD at end of movie where it just stopped because it was cut off). The time display on the DVD player at the begining of the Movie was only 87:28 mins. Thought that was interesting.
System stats:
AMD Athlon 950MHz
512MB RAM
20GB 5000 Ultra HD
