I use (the wonderful) DVD2SVCD frequently to make SVCD for my cheapo APEX DVD player. The subtitle can be turned on and off because the player always enable PBC. I recently purchased a Sony DAV-C770 and it also plays SVCD and CVD, but the subtitle can't be turned on because the DVD player only turns on PBC *if* the disc is VCD 2.0. It's an automatic thing and I can't manual turn on PBC, weird heh? So I was just wondering if anyone had the same problem with their DVD player. Is there a way to "trick" the player into thinking the disc is a VCD 2.0? I read about the header trick and changing the offset to even # (according to DVD2SVCD). I use CDRWIN to burn, should I try EasyVCD? Any help or recommendation would be great, thank you very much!

You can try using VCD Header Trick plugin for DVD2SVCD from here: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42406

I noticed on my Sony 615 Multidisk player when doing the header trick it would play but then would not play on the Apex 5131. I have now switched to making DVD's and in order to get best picture and timeframe on one DVD from Captures use: ADVC-100 and Raptor Card hardware. Software I use is:
TMPGne - start and stop frames, VBR-2Pass High, Average and low numbers to fit approximately 4Gig of Video only. Then
CCE - using information from TMPGne to encode (shorter timeframe)
Extract WAV from DV and convert it to AC3 with softencode then Infoedit to author DVD burning image/DVD with Nero. Just starting to play with SpruceUp to add chapters to capture. Videos look pretty good...averaging 1.5 to 2.5 hrs with an average bitrate of 4000-6000 and a low of 3000 and a high of 9000.
Apologize for drifting off the subject but would recommend not purchasing a Sony (at least in the US) because of issues it has playing back SVCDs and would buy the Panasonic or Apex multiplayer instead. The Apex 5131 has a major design flaw (kind of an analogy to building a car and forgetting the transmission) in that it will not autoadvance to the next CD but has to be done manually.
