I am trying to learn how to play Videos that i downloaded to an old DVD Player (at least 6 years old i believe).

I have a Eureka Seven Movie that is an .AVI file and is in a 1280x720 resolution. I do not know what video and audio bitrate it has though. (when converted it was around 1.6GB in size)

Also i have the Eureka Seven Episodes 1-7 and is converted already from .AVI to MPEG2 as well. The resolution for the series was set to 640x480 resolution. (each episode were around 300MB in size)

we used the Any Video Professional Converter BTW.

Since we are 90% sure that the .AVI file cannot be played by the old DVD Player i converted all the file into an MPEG2.

I burned it as a "data" using the Nero StartSmart essentials because it does not want to burn the Original .AVIs when i am in the option of wanting to burn a "DVD Video".

When i am in the burn "DVD Video" option and trying to look for the file. It seems to only recognize .BOP, .VOB, .IFOs so i just went to the burn as "Data" option

The old DVD player is not able to read any of the files sadly.

We tried a newer dvd player and the Eureka Seven Episodes 1-7 seem to work but the video on the screen was cropped below about 5% and therefore it was hard to read the second line of subtitles of the series.

As for the Eureka Seven Movie, it only played the audio (this is still on the newer DVD player). I think i have read that a 1280x720 resolution is just not possible to be read in a DVD player.

Still we would love to learn on how to play the MPEG2 Files on our very old DVD player (since it has the biggest screen in the house [the old dvd player is built in the TV])

Thanks in advance! I just hope im not posting in the wrong area.

  2. DVD players don't have to play MPEG or AVI files on data disks. You'll probably have to convert and author a normal movie DVD for your old player. Nero's not the best tool for this but it has the ability, and you already have it.

Why not try an AVI and be sure?
Get a DVDRW and you can reuse the discs and experiment.

What you need to do is "Author" a DVD. That will take MPEG files and convert them to the VOB/IFO etc files. But the MPEGs and audio files have to be on the correct formats.

See the tools sections of this site.
There are many choices, a simple freeware is Rejig. GuiforDVDAuthor is a bit more complex.

Yes. Movie DVDs have very specific requirements.

Did you look in the Tools section for DVD authoring tools ? There are plenty of free or low cost tools for doing this.

Dangerous territory. Sometimes it does okay, sometimes it outputs crap.
