  1. Hi all,

I downloaded a divx file, but unfortunately this file was incomplete (about 90% of total size).

When I open VirtualDub 1.4.11 the window "AVI Import Filter" appear and give me a message: "reconstructing missing index block". Finished this task VD shows another window: "Warning VirtualDub has reconstructed the index for this file, but you have not specified rekeying in the extended open options dialog. Seeking in this file may be slow.". Now if I move the cursor in the trackbar VD crash.

So I re-open VD and use the extended open options dialog. In the window "Import options: AVI import filter" I check "Re-derive keyframe flags" and let the rest unchecked. In the "Interlaced frame mode" area I check "Normal". After rekeying if I move the cursor in the trackbar VD crash again.

What I can't understand is that only one keyframe is present in the movie also after rekeying. Below I report the content of "AVI Information" window:

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    VIDEO STREAM
Frame size, fps (µs per frame): 576x288, 25 fps (40000 µs)
    # of frames (time): 99122 (1:06:04)
    Decompressor: divx 5.0.2 pro
    Number of key frames: 1 <--- ???
    Min/avg/max total key frame size: 18200/18200/18200 (18K)
    Min/avg/max total delta frame size: 0/6157/87117 (596038K)
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is it possible to fix the problem without recompress?

If yes how? If not I have another little question

After encoding (with divx 5.0.3 pro) in VD the output file is ok (I tried). I mean I can now edit the movie and VD doesn't crash. But now I have another problem: how re-encode with the same quality and file size? Which settings should I use?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions and sorry for my poor english and for too many explanation rows.

DivX 5.02 default keyframes are ever 300, not so good for skipping or fast forward. Once you have loaded the AVI in, try streaming a new copy using direct stream copy on both video and audio.

If you need to re-compress to the original DivX 5, use the defaults see if the quality is ok, or increase the bitrate.

You might also be able to load it into TMPGEnc

The file you downloaded at 90%, if you were downloading from multiple sources, then you may already have the end, but have lost 10% before the end
