  1. Hi,

I am trying to encode a AVI and MP3 file togetter I am using TMPGEnc. I select the Video file with no probs, but when I select the Audio file (MP3 part) I get an error message "Can not open or unsupported"

I went to the Environmental setting\Audio Engine and put an External Program for the MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3 encoder. But still get the same error message.

Do I need some sort of Plugin to get this to work?

    Thanks

    Bscull

I was able to encode an AVI video file with a MP3 audio file using TMPGEnc v2.52 with no problem. Maybe later versions won't work?

    VCD/SVCD doesn't use MP3 for it's audio. VCD/SVCD uses MPEG-I Audio Layer-II. :P

What I meant to say was, I was able to use an AVI video file with a MP3 audio file using TMPGEnc v2.52 to make a MPEG file with no problem. I believe that's what bscull was trying to do.

Audio Browse > MP3 works for me. I'm curious why it does'nt work for you. What happens when you try to load a file? Do you get a error message as the original poster? What version of TMPGEnc are you using?

Can we use MPEG-Audio Layer3(MP3) for audio part?
TMPGEnc does not include MP3 encoder. You can use external encoder

To encode MPEG-1 Audio Layer-III (what we call MP3) which is not supported by TMPGEnc solely, specifies if TMPGEnc Plus use external MPEG-1 Audio Layer-III encoder or not.

    MPEG-1 Audio Layer II encoder
Selects built-in engine or external encoder to encode MPEG-1 Audio Layer-II.
    Use built-in engine
Uses built-in encoder to encode MPEG-1 Audio Layer-II.

    External program
Uses external encoder to encode MPEG-1 Audio Layer-II. Press "Browse" to specify the external encoder.

As external encoder for MPEG-1 Audio Layer-II , MAENC(maenc.exe), tooLAME(tooLAME.exe), SCMPX(SCMPX.exe) can be used. TMPGEnc Plus does not warrant to work with other encoder than encoders above.

    MPEG-1 Audio Layer III encoder
To encode MPEG-1 Audio Layer-III (what we call MP3) which is not supported by TMPGEnc solely, specifies if TMPGEnc Plus use external MPEG-1 Audio Layer-III encoder or not.
    Do not use
Does not encode MPEG-1 Audio Layer-III.. In this case, [ MPEG-1 Audio Layer III ] option does not appear at "audio" tab in MPEG setting.

    External program
Uses external program to encode MPEG-1 Audio Layer-III. By "Browse" button, you can specify the external program file name.

As external encoder for MPEG-1 Audio Layer-III , MAENC(maenc.exe), tooLAME(tooLAME.exe), SCMPX(SCMPX.exe) can be used. TMPGEnc Plus does not warrant to work with other encoder than encoders above.

    More
    TMPGEnc Plus Version 2.510 (2.510.94.157)

    - Fixed: In the Environmental setting window, General tab, checking Enable multiplex with... and chosing audio file other than mp1, mp2 or mp3 format would raise an error when starting to encode.
    - Fixed: In the MPEG setting dialog window, GOP structure tab, when Detect Scene Change and Force picture type setting were both selected, closing the dialog window and re-open it would clear the Force picture type setting checkmark.
    - Fixed: In the MPEG setting dialog window, System tab, chosing MPEG-1 Video-CD (non-standard) would in fact select the MPEG-1 Video-CD setting.

So depending on what vertion you have, what you have installed, all standard defaults would not use MP3

As already indicated, the simplest way is to convert your .mp3 to .wav, and then it will work.
