It's funny you ask, I'm using DVD decriptor as we speak and it works great. reads, rips and writes. But some disk ISO images are over 4 gig so you'll need to use NTFS. the link to it is in the tools section here.

hey smurf, nero express isnt really all that good, get a demo
from nero for the full version, but the current one 5510 isnt
really that good, try to dwonload 55917 somewhere, its
pretty stable with the dvd burning issue.... -
You Know musher that nanna makes me smile every time i see it lol
I got 5.5.9.14 i think If it wasn't in express mode could i do the 1 on 1 dvd ? -
no, ive been doing this all year now, and everytime i use
ifoedit and stuff, and still go after the menu, damn disc
wont play in my sony set-top, plays in sampo unit i got
though, friend of mine gave me a copy of xcopy, and if
you use VOBrator, u can strip out "backup" screen, or
just replace it with original, but ive been trying to take other
screens out also, did new simone disc last night and it
came out really nice, pm me if you got questions (: -
you lot have lost me with all this ifoedit babble
if you want to copy dvd 5 to dvdr just rip it either smartripper or dvd decryptor to a folder named video_ts and burn with nero/ulead workshop or any other burning program, personally i prefer workshop seems to have more widespread compatability with dvd players,
keeps all chapters, menus, subs and second languages and the picture quality is as original
i would only use ifo and gang if i was doing dvd9 but then i prefer to just rip movie reencode with tsunami with bitrate of 3000 - 8000 works out if i remember at 2hr30 per disc depending on motion in movie and the quality is brilliant cannot tell difference between copy and original, if you want menu at beginning then rip the smallest vob seperately which is usually the menu and reencode that with tsunami and use it as your first play in workshop -

hey curry, you are way lost aren't you,
one more time ok?
1. create a dvdrip folder ok ex. c:\dvdrip
2. use smartripper, if you want to, rip all relevant files
to that folder ex. video_ts.ifo/bup,vts_01_1-5.ifo/bup/vobs
that if,its where the video files are ok?takes 45mins
3. create an empty VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folder
4. start ifoedit, open vts_01_0.ifo, click vob extras, check five boxes
on left, starting with the one UNDER remux, like strip streams, strip
vob ids, create new ifo files(movie only),correct pointer etc.
5. click strip, this is where you can and will, make choices on
which streams you wanna keep, if its really close, dont choose
anything extra, like subs commentaries etc...
6. choose destination, this is when you put it in VIDEO_TS folder
cause if you already put them there, it'll make you choose
another destination...
7. dont strip any vob ids, make sure theyre all checked.
8. strip them into folder, takes 30 mins or so.
9. close ifoedit.
10.open ifoedit, with ur NEW folder, look for video_ts.ifo,
should only be two ifo files there, but it created all
relevant files for you, check your structure now, look
for chapter audio etc, you dont really change anything
here though, get use to checking, so when you start to
reencode later in life, its not awkward....
11. check "get vts sectors", new dialogue appears,it'll say
save bup as well, click ok...
12. burn with nero or whatever, make sure in nero its
dvd udf/iso, its the last one...wait 1 hr or less....
13. using this method, though it doesnt work on high bit-
rated movies, so reencoding will be necessary, disc
will start to play with no menu's.... -
Exactly, I can't imagine buying other software packages to do that when it can be done so easily with DVD Decryptor. A DVD5 disk will ALWAYS fit to a DVDR.
-
BUT I CAN'T SEE THE POINT OF GOING THROUGH ALL THE HASSLE OF STRIPPING VOBS AND SO ON WHEN ALL THAT IS NEEDED IS A STRAIGHT COPY FROM DISC TO DISC
DVD5 TO DVDR....THERE, DONE, COMPLETE -
I agree with many here.
The very easiest way to copy a DVD5 is by using DVDXCOPY but you'll have their bullshit logo screen etc, not a big deal but now even I use the DVDDecryptor read/write method for DVD5, but even DVDXCOPY is only 1 or 2 less mouse clicks than the DVDDecrytor method.
Luckily there's more than 1 way to skin a cat. -
You don't have to do anything fancy with DVD Decryptor.
In ISO Read mode, just click on decrypt to read the entire disc.
Then ISO Write mode, just click to write to the new disc.
With DVD decryptor, you don't have to go in to edit vob IDs in IFOedit to remove the 321 Logo that says it's a backup. DVD Decryptor is a perfect copy.
If you think DVD Decryptor is a hassle, I would like to know what you think of the sophisticated methods. -
Curryman,
Nothing in life is easy, you've got to break some eggs to make real mayonnaise or should I say real DVD.
This is only for DVD9's that can not be reduced to a workable 4.7 (4.3 GB by ripping just the main movie or all of it if size willing, if so It is just a straight rip and burn with (DVDDecrypter), another good freeware program, or whatever program you prefer. ***SEE BELOW Decrypter/Nero
I have had great success with this method on DVD9to5. It is not all freeware but I have spent many nights and countless time on a lot of software and found this method flawless, if followed precisely, on each attempt. You have to decide for your self what works for you time, cost quality, ect. I have made many, many copy's of my DVD's and no costers since I started using this process. None of this is my software nor do I have any affiliation with the software providers I just know it makes great DVD's and it is all still available unlike most of the guides I tried that get you half way through the process and then you find out some of the software or other necessary component does not exist any more or costs an arm and a leg.
Decrypter Under 4.38
DVD *******Assuming all these files listed below are under 4.38 GB.
STEP 1]
Open DVD Decrypted,
Under mode tab select file,
Under edit tab select main movie
Make sure you also select the 4 other files listed below
[It is a must to have all file names in UPPERCASE]. DVD Decrypted does this some rippers do not.
Choose a Source drive and destination folder [HIT THE BIG BUTTON AT THE BOTTOM]
Other files needed
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.VOB
These as well as the main movie files DVD Decrypted selected for you automatically, rip to previously made folder.
STEP 2] added instructions
BEFORE YOU START Be advised Nero is always messing around with this program and I have heard some complaints lately.
I have upgraded each time now 5.10 and have never had a problem, just lucky I guess.
[I DON”T USE THE F$REE DEMO] I pay for soft/shareware!
***NERO [MAKE SURE UNDER FILE, PREFERENCES, EXPERT FEATURES TAB,
ENABLE IMAGE RECORDING FOR ALL SUPPORTED RECORDER FORMATS IS CHECKED]
STEP 2]
Open Nero, select New in file menu, if it does not open with NERO or you have that stupid WIZARD on, in first drop down select DVD, then in the mode tree on the left choose DVD video, In ISO tab select Joliet; in the label tab uncheck [Also use the ISO9660 text for Joliet]. Again at the top of the label tab in the drop down choose Joliet and name volume label and volume set as desired, to the far right of the window choose NEW.
In the new Compilation open [the VIDEO_TS folder in the DVD Video browser, in the file browser find all the above mentioned files and drag them into the VIDEO_TS Folder. Go to file in main window and choose write CD. The Write CD window will open. Go to the label tab; in the drop down choose Joliet, Your named Compilation will appear in the volume label and volume set, on the right of the window hit the big button WRITE and off you go.

Half of you are friggin retarded... The very first response is 90% correct. dvddecrypter in iso mode is just about perfect for dvd5 copying. It is more compatible than nero burns and will make it childs play to copy while removing all the important protections and regions.
However the post saying ntfs was necessary was wrong. Just one more thing that makes this the best dvd5 copy option, especially if you are dual booting and having to keep fat32. My main drive is ntfs but I have a slave that I use form time to time that is fat32.. dvddecrypter makes an iso file for the first 4 gig, an .I01 file for anything over the 4 gig, and a .dvd file that you use when you write. The .dvd file is basically a text file telling dvddecrypter which files go in what order when rebuilding the full iso for burning. I suppose if you ripped something 9 gig or so it would have .I01 and .I02 files but if your doing that then your messing with dvd9 and anyone messing with dvd9 should be running xp/2000 with ntfs anyway so I doubt many people have ever seen .I02 files from dvddecrypter. -
