I would like to know what everyone is using to copy your DVDs. Majority of the public is using freeware like DVDfab HD Decrypter. Vote and post why you chose your software.
I added 1Click DVD Copy Pro because only the pro version lets you choose and edit the main movie option.
If I missed something, or you use another software, post it and I will add it to the list.

None of the above. I have never seen the need to pay for services that are available free and are just as good, if not better than, the the payware products. Having trialled a couple of the payware products to see if the convenience of having an all-in-one solution is worth the $$, I have found all to be wanting in the quality stakes when compared to using the right tool for each stage.

 DVDFab HD Decrypter (free)
 DVD Shrink (free)
 DVD Rebuilder with HCEnc (free)
 VOBBlanker (free)Read my blog here.

I haven't done it much lately. However my destination recently is my zune. For that I use anydvd and corel dvd copy 6. I can load in the dvd and rip straight to wmv. Nice and simple. Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

	DVDfab is DVDfab HD Decrypter
 Now it's an all-in-one package.
Of course the other options are trialware.

Like every other damn question on any forum anywhere, this one has been argued to death with the same result: no single backup tool or suite works equally well for every user every time. The "best encoder" for some will drive others to drink with its quirks and time consumption. The "worst encoder" is perfectly acceptable to many people who can't understand what all the fuss is about regarding alternatives. "Ultimate" freeware is fine if you're guns1inger and enjoy coordinating four separate tools, if you don't enjoy mix-n-match you may not be happy going that route and would be better off with integrated solutions. Skewing all this is would be your primary intent: if its backups for a portable player or your laptop, why the hell would you want to screw around with four separate tools to achieve "ultimate quality"? Are you going to actually see the difference on a 7" or 14" screen? If you do a lot of this, look for simpler integrated tools, either freeware or payware. If you're making occasional backups for display on a 40" screen, follow what guns1inger suggested and learn to use/upgrade multiple options.

Of course price enters here: the cost of a lot of the payware has shot up significantly. What was worth it wo years ago for some of us might not be at todays prices. In 2006 I paid about $70 for the Slysoft suite (CloneDVD ripper, AnyDVD decrypter, and CloneDVDMobile iPod/phone/Archos converter). At that price, with lifetime upgrades, I'm very satisfied with these tools and expect to be for a long time to come. They are a good compromise between speed and quality, especially CloneDVD Mobile (seemingly the only iPod ripper that doesn't take 3 hours to rip and convert a two hour dvd (its more like 30 mins). However, at the current pricing of double what I paid and an uncertain, revamped upgrade plan for new buyers, I don't know if I'd bite the SlySoft apple again today.

You'll have to do what all of us do: personal research. Try all the freeware, if you find a group of tools you like you can save a chunk of change. If you don't really like the freeware, use the trial offers on the payware solutions and see if any work better for you. Buy the best you can afford.

Yep, and especially those payware ones you listed in the poll. Look, you asked what everyone was using. Everyone isn't using the garbage you listed. Only the ignorant and/or the lazy use them. For transcoders, nothing yet beats DVD Shrink. And if you care about the results, you use a real encoder. If you want to use one of the ones you listed in this poll, then fine. Go ahead. But don't pretend that your silly poll includes all the ways to back up a DVD.Originally Posted by Ally68

This whole poll is just to spam us with DVDFab anyway.

I don't encode nor shink my movies. This poll is about DVD Copy Software. Some of us don't transcode nor encode. Man made big hard drives for a reason

Well if you are copying dvd's then you are either reencoding, transcoding or burning to DL dvdr.Originally Posted by Ally68

Then I think it would be more appropriate to title this thread DVD Ripping Software, and let it be known that you have no interest in the transcoding/shrinking features of all listed software. Just the ripping features.Originally Posted by Ally68

Otherwise I think most people would consider dvd copy software as a way to create a backup of a commercial dvd to a blank dvd, and for a lot of people that includes encoding or transcoding that ripped dvd to fit a dvd5.

As far as ripping software only goes, the free dvdfabhddecrypter and anydvd are updated quite frequently to handle the latest protections placed on commercial discs. I personally use the free decrypter in dvdfab.

Honestly I still think that the best ripping software is old dvddecrypter. It was useful in so many ways. To that end you can still use it if you have anydvd running in the background to handle the latest copy protections.

But the free dvdfabhddecrypter suites my needs just fine

AnyDVD>DVD Shrink>ImgBurn But just for DVDs, DVDFab HD Decrypter is freeware and works fine.

For better quality I use DVD Rebuilder.
-
Negative, I use the main movie option with DVDfab, so they are usually on a DVD5. And yes, it's just rippingOriginally Posted by Noahtuck

I like DVD Rebuilder, they just don't update the software as much.

The title of my poll is fine, most of the programs have the word "Copy" in it, not "Rip". Copy and Ripping are the same thing when it comes to the basics. Everything else would fall under a different category for encoding/transcoding.

But you're title is about about copyingOriginally Posted by Ally68

A lot of programs don't have the main movie option, which is what I use. If you can give me a list of programs that do, other than what I have posted, then I will add them.

RecordNow Max is mainly for burning, not copying.
-
DVD Shrink has main movie option -- it's not in the poll.

If I put a disc in the DVD-ROM, and then RecordNow reads it, and burns a new copy to the blank DVD-R in the DVD burner, how is that not copying?Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

Yeah, I can use RecordNow Max to copy it to an image file, you bet. I don't do so, however, as I prefer ImgBurn or DVD Decrypter for image creation. Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)
