Hi, I have been making vcd and svcd movies now for about a year, and I have downloaded the samples and viewed them. I have achieved quality similar to the quality in the vcd sample, but I have not even come close to the svcd sample quality. Can anyone tell me what the specs are for that sample because I would love to get that kind of quality. If it has to do with the filters used when encoding please let me know which ones. Thanks

It's all about your source and encoding options. For best results you need/want an excellent source (eg. DVD rip).
As for encoding. Either set the bitrate to the max supported by your standalone and/or use multipass VBR encoding. For example, I've found that when backing up DVDs if I use CCE to encode with 3pass VBR (300, 2000, 2700) I get damn near DVD quaility encodes.
