LOTR - Extended Edition - 2 DVD9's.
I have split the original streams on the DVD's as follows :-
Part 1 - Video,AC3,4 subtitles (for elvish etc) - All chapters EXCEPT last 3.
Part 2 - Video,AC3,4 subtitles - All chapters EXCEPT last 3 (long credits) + the 3 from Part 1.
All VOBS now fit onto 2 DVD-R's with NO re-encoding.
Ok, here's the problem - I tried to recreate the IFO's in Vobedit - the vobs play in the correct sequence - but subtitles are incorrect. I then tried copying the original IFO's - subs work fine now but movie length / chapters are incorrect (as you would expect..). Tried the IfoEdit fix VTS sectors - again, worked with subs but movie length incorrect and plays when the movie has actually finsihed.
Is there anything out there that will 'merge' IFO's - essentially retaining all the sub info but create new IFO for the chapters and movie length ?
Cheers,
TeeeRex.

Fair enough - I guess the answer was no then ....
I've done it now anyway - a bit or R&D was required from doom9's IFOEdit forum...
In a nutshell - recreate the complete ISO's from the vobs (nothing complex there) and then the complex bit to turn on the substream automatically - basically you need to add a 'command' to the PGC in the IFO - the command is 51 00 00 00 c0 00 00 for substream 1 but I wanted the 'elvish' which I had as substream 2 - hence 51 00 00 00 c1 00 00.
All sorted now and works a treat - LOTR SEE backup on 2 DVD-R's, AC3, english subs (manual) and elvish subs automatically. Excellent....
If you want more info on IFO's then visit doom9 - they have a dedicated ISO forum with all this stuff in ...

Hi
Sorry I couldn't help but I am doing the same film, and aren't the elvish subtitles hard encoded into the film anyway?
I got rid of the subs in mine but they do show when elvish is spoken (I think). :P
Damn those credits are loooong!! -
It's substream 5 because I can turn them on and off ! If they were hard coded then I wouldn't be able to do this .... If you have got rid of the subs then I just hope you can understand elvish !!

OK, what chapter is some Elvish in buddy (disc 1 and disc2)? So I can check mine...
I thought the elvish subs would just play as you cant turn them off as no one can speak elvish anyway...lol.
OH OH Spaghettios... -
I don't have the original vobs to hand (I'm at work..) but I think it's the last subpicture - 25(?)
In the original IFO, yes this stream is turned on (by a precommand in the PGC) but if you have butchered the original vobs to make them fit untouched onto a DVD-R then you cannot use the original IFo (chapters and film length will be screwed etc) and need to recreate it with IFOedit. This is what I was referring to as you then need to edit the IFo and add the precommand to turn on the substream again ....
(ps - was being sarcastic about the elvish language...)
-
If there is only a little bit of elvish then I will leave it you see, but if there is quite a bit I shall re-do it, ho hum.
Thanks TeeeRex, as I have already done Disc 2 to my satisfaction, do you have any advice on how to do Disc 1 again (If needed) to keep the elvish subs. Bearing in mind that I cannot do what you did regards moving chapters, I will still need to re encode for Disc 1?
:P :P -
There is not that much at all on either disc - I think it just spoils it if you don't know what the elves are saying ...
yes you will need to reencode disc1 to make it fit as you said that you are happy with disc 2 - you have no choice.
Easiest way is to demux JUST the elvish (25 I think..) and then recreate the vob using the m2v,ac3 and sup (substream) file using Ifoedit. Ifoedit will then turn ON the substream for you (fairly sure of this) by default and as it's the only one - it will be correct.
Good luck - PS may not be worth the hassle if you have already reencoded it all ... -
OK I had a quick look at my original Disc 1 and while I only skimmed through it, it seems the elvish parts are mainly Liv Tyler's character when she talks to Frodo when he is injured and when she talking to one of the main characters later on Ch 25-26.
Don't look like there is that much so I am debating. I know what you mean though about it spoiling it slightly. Like I haven't done a proper job on it...
Thanks again TeeeRex, should have waited till I read your original post to do this film.
