I'm experiencing progressive sound sync issues with my first attempt at dvd to dvd-r ripping, and wonder if anyone knows a plugin I can install so I can use the encoder within Ulead Movie Factory to create mpeg's with the outputed 2dv and ac3 files from dvd2avi?
I'm currently using TMPGenc and whilst it's a wonderful program I'm beginning to think it's the root of my sound issues.
I've searched the forums and the suggested sound forge fix seems to be far too much of a long-winded job for every dvd I create.
    Thanks,
    Will

    Erm, no.
Teeerex very kindly offered the suggestion that he *didn't think* Ulead Movie Factory would work with the output files from DVD2AVI, and went on to suggest a modified version of DVD2SVCD might be a better option.
I'm trying to avoid TMPGEnc and the point of this post (it's in the title) is to identify any users who have extensive experience of Ulead Movie Factory who may be able to assist.
    Thanks for hijacking my post.

    silky31,

From your terminology, I think you may still be a bit confused...

You do not import the d2v file into Ulead - you import :-

MPG - USUALLY a Video AND sound file (MP2 only)

I have since read the web side for Ulead DVD MF v2 and it states that AC3 import is 'optional'. I therfore assume that it is definately not in any earlier version ?

    For completness -

M2V - USUALLY a Video ONLY file (short for MPEG2 Video)
MP2 - USUALLY a Sound ONLY file (short for MPEG Audio 1 - Layer 2)
AC3 - A Dolby Digital sound track - USUALLY 5.1 but doesn't have to be.
WAV - PCM - usually used in transition from AC3 to MP2 (ie temporary).

So in summary, for a normal DVD author, you need the M2V file and AC3 only - you can junk all the other files once you know it works!.

A video only encode from Tmpgenc CAN just be renamed to .M2V and it will work fine.

A note about your sync - does the movie lose sync on your PC in your software player ? (just play the vobs directly). If it doesn't - then it's your DVD player...

I understand the function of Ulead Movie Maker, I was hoping I could import the file from dvd2avi and use the encoder within Ulead MF, clearly not
I've been on the Ulead formum and tech support replied to a post asked by another user - it's a mistake, it's not optional in either 1.0 or the recently released 2.0

So I can encode video only to produce my mv2 and then import both the ac3 (a wav, in my case) and mv2 into Ulead?

Same sync problems n the PC, using PowerDVD - although this was using the mpeg (I'd deleted the vob's thinking all was well!).
So, with regards the sync, what makes you sure it isn't during encoding?
Are you saying the sound will be corrupted during dvd2avi?
    Thanks for the help,
    Will

    Me again ...

'So I can encode video only to produce my mv2 and then import both the ac3 (a wav, in my case) and mv2 into Ulead?' - yes. But try to stop using the term AC3 for a wave or MP2 file - it is notan ac3 file regardless of the name !

'So, with regards the sync, what makes you sure it isn't during encoding? ' - no what you have now proved is that it IS in the encoding - so we can eliminate your DVD player as the potential cause.

Because you've deleted the vobs it is going to be dificult to get it back in sync again without some serious tools.

If you look at this guide -

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/userguides/121195.php

it will run though DVD2SVCD in a DVD format. I use this method and it has never failed me once - I use CCE mind you but the 'method' is just the same.

The output MPG can be imported directly into Ulead DVD MF - it will only have MP2 2channel sound but that is all you can use anyway. AC3 and M2V are there as well if you ever need them.

The VOB's aren't a worry, if the next three are fine I'll put it down to experience and be very happy.

    Hi Teeerex, again, thanks.
    I've posted a message regarding dvd2dvdr over at http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=423136#423136
Might be more relevant over there.
    Thanks again,
    Will

Yep, I renames the m2v produced by dvd2dvdr to mpg and imported it to Ulead.
A small clip has just finished, excellent quality but no sound.
