  2. What media are you using? Dont forget that only the DVD-R's can burn at x2 speed. And while the supplied Pioneer DVD-R that came with the drive burned fine at x2 the TDK DVD-R's that I bought will only burn at x1 speed! No more TDK's for me!

    Time to try other media...

  3. ther A03 uses PIO mode not DMA. Not all DVD-R media burns at 2x, Pioneer, Apple and a select few do burn at 2x, all other burn at 1x.

  4. Yep. Same problem here. Guess it depends what your time is worth. Also begs the question whether the new DVR-A04 /104 will be all that much better, if one needs to feed it expensive media. Though -- I remember when 8x CDR media was $2 a pop too -- and now its about 2 cents.

I think I'll start a thread specifically asking users which DVD-R media they have been able to burn at 2x. Maybe there are some cheaper alternatives out there that are 2x compat.

    later.....

  6. Yes the A04 ( if you can find them ) is worth it, no more caoster like my A03 and the safe burn is well worth it. It has been way more stable than my A03. Th A05 is out so it should run better. BTW I use my media from www.finodisc.com, what is interesting is I buy there 2x rated media in spindles at the local computer swapmeet. DVD Decryptor reports them to be TDKs, but a message posted on TDK's website reports Princo and som other media falsefying the disc ID so that the Pioneer accepts them as 2x media and burns them as such. So far thy have been good on the burns and the playabck save for the ocassional hic up on my Sony, but then the Sony has been picky about playback on DVD-R media. My Pioneer however has no problems with them.

Also I am running Nero 5.5.10.7, which is current, supposedly they fixed the known DVD burns bugs which gave compatiblity problms with some units, but I have been using Record Max Now v 4.5 for quite some time due to the Nero errors. I still keep Nero for all other burns except DVD-R work.

  7. Guys i am now very confused, I have pioneer a03 updated hacked firmware to enable 1x disk to burn at 2x / disks are datawrite classic.

Nero only lets burning at 1x no option to make 2x.
Also dvd decrypter still only burning 1x as taking aprox 60 mins for 1 backup movie.

    All help appreciated
