I have used vfapi to convert dvd project files to avi for editing but when I try to open them I get an error cannot determine file type?
Any help?

You want to convert dvd project files, I guess .d2v files.
Then you convert the project to "avi" with VFAPI. At that point you try to edit the avi? No, VFAPI converted AVIs are not real AVIs, it's just another project or something like this. You can open this *vfapi.avi in a MPEG encoder or VirtualDub to encode to a real .avi or .mpg. But keep the .vob, .d2v, *vfapi.avi all in the same directory, don't delete any file of these.
I hope I have understood your question. -
I'm having this same problem. I frameserve my captured file from VDub to Tmpeg and then after IVTC it (manually) I save the project. My first aim is making SVCDs, however, I would also like to be able to use nandub to make a divx version, so I use VFAPIConv to load the project file and convert it to the dummy avi file.
The problem comes when I try to load that dummy file into nandub. I get the message "cannot determine file type".
This is my first time using VFAPIConv so I must be doing something wrong. Can anyone help?
