  2. :P
I had a Terapin for a few months. It records 1.1 version VCD's and it does a good job. But it stoped reading and recording VCD's after about a month and a 1/2 of having it. The instructions says that after 4 hours of running to let it cool off for a while. But I didn't do that. So the may from E-bay gave my money back. I was lucky for that...

  3. CD-R/W drives just aren't as robust as standard CD and DVD drives unfortunately...

I wonder (does anyone know), if the Terapin uses a standard IDE CD-R/W drive?

    Regards.

  4. I've had my Terapin for about 7 months now and it's excellent for what I need. It's basically a VCR that uses VCD's instead of VHS tapes. What's nice is you can tape & then use your computer to remove commericials & reburn shows. I use it primarily for taping my sons shows (he's 2). The quality is good - however it depends on the source even straight from the tv is still good for watching. I think it's even easier then my VCR to use. It just depends on what your going to use it for. Although I haven't tried it I've heard others say it will tape directly from DVD/VHS no problems (ignores macrovision) - so obvisouly a DVD backup would look better than say a VHS backup. There were a few threads a few months back stating that Sam's Club was selling them for $199, but my local Sam's didn't get any (only certain ones did). I got mine off of Ebay. Is it DVD quality NO - IS it wacthable absolutly! As for its use mine is on an average day 2-8 hrs & I've had no problems whatsoever. Would I buy it again??? Yes.
