Hey
I've been ripping quite a few DVD's to SVCD with DVD2SVCD and I'm very pleased with the results. One question though. Why does TMPGEnc go through the whole movie first before you can see where in the movie you are? and it's just black. Did I miss anything in the settings?

No, it's just that you're using VBR when encoding. During the first, (well, all but the last i guess, if you're using more than 2-pass VBR) analyzing pass, nothing is encoded - thus a black preview window. When it reaches 50%, it has actually analyzed 100% of the movie, and is starting to encode for real, using the info gathered during the analyze pass(es).
Just the way it shold be - nothing to worry about.
