Ok, this is a really stupid question. But I just wanted to make sure.

If I use the MPEG join feature in TMPGEnc it wont encode the files at all, correct? I want to keep the original quality.

If you mean the mpeg joiner in tmpgenc under File->Mpeg tools than no it wont reencode. But I would avoid it as it often cause problems when joining or splitting, especially with mpeg2 files. Use instead videoredo, mpeg-vcr or mpg2cut2.

Thanks for the response. I will give one of those programs a shot in the future as I already used TMPGEnc to join my mpegs and deleted the originals.

Both MPEGVCR and VideoReDo allow you to "try before you buy". I own both. I prefer MPEGVCR for standard definition video, but VideoReDo is a lot better for high def video editing, in my opinion. See which you like better.

I can't recommend TMPGenc for any kind of editing or joining as some people (I am one of them) get horrible audio sync problems after using TMPGenc to do this kind of thing. Nobody knows why. Nobody knows how to fix it. It either happens to you and you're screwed or you have one of the PCs that doesn't have this problem and you're OK to use it for this. This kind of thing was what led me to find MPEGVCR almost 6 years ago.

  5. I tried TMPGEnc MPEG Editor 2.0 on a 39min HD definition video I shot with my Sony HC3 camcorder and there were no A/V Synch problems at all, it worked flawlessly.

VideoReDo is pretty cool... with pinpoint accuracy for the exact frame where you want to cut, unlike some editors where it jumps 3+ frames at a time

    there's always p2p
