  1. I understand that they didnt want to ship any out without having the latest firmware installed....but couldnt they just have shipped them out anyways and let everyone download the update? Doesnt Sony realize they are losing out on a ton of money by not having it available the weeks before Christmas? Im getting pretty tired of waiting, and may just get a Pioneer drive...Im sure Im not the only one who may look to another company for a DVD burner...

    Cannibal,

Call around to local stores that carry computer hardware. If you have to go 50 miles its worth the drive, i went 54 miles and to me it was worth the drive. Get a pal or friend or what not and go for a lil road trip for the day. Thats what I did, i called Circuit Cities, and Best Buy's and finally found one that had one ! it was pretty lucky from what I can gather! but its worth doing that !

  3. It's a no-win situation for Sony to hold back the DRU500. Potential buyers like you may end up purchasing a competitor's drive; on the other hand, if they release the drive now, poeple will complain that they rushed the drive to market.

  4. You know I don't believe Sony held back shipping at all. Sony sold a lot of drives. I know for instance Frys had over 50 and sold them in 1 day. Circuit city and Best Buy were the same. Sony sold over 30,000 drives in a couple days of release. While we have witnessed many die hard pioneer fans on this page, I think it has become even more apparent that Pioneers 3rd generation mark has not given them much advantage over the market.

I watched the stock guys as Best Buy put 20 on the shelf, then watched all 20 disappear in half the time. Same story at all the stores I looked, they can't keep em on the shelf. Ordered one off the 'net, worht the wait in my book.
