  1. I burnt a couple svcds using the "Disc Image" option in toast using the .bin file. I know this is incorrect, and i need to re-burn them using the multitrack option. how can i rip the .mpg (or make a .bin of the cd-r) so i can reburn it? when i try copying the .mpg file from the mpeg2 folder it gives me an error, and then when i try and use a toast disc image the mpeg is messed up. is it possible to do this? thanks for the help.

the whole burning of bin files in multitrack XA in toast only works through a fluke with SVCD burning, i have 10.2 and toast 5.2 and it hasnt worked once for me. it only works on certain dvd players so when you do it, its not properly burned that way either, if you want to burn in toast i suggest making them into cdrom xa files. the process is described in depth on the vcdtoolsx webpage. i still prefer to burn in cdrdao- its the only way i see to burn from the bin/cue format and its quicker than converting to xa THEN burning in toast....once you have burned it improperly in disc image mode i dont think there is anything you can do to save it.

from my understanding there is nothing you can do to save those files... i COULD be wrong though, and ross has coded a nice GUI for cdrdao you can get it at his homepage

  5. I am NOT going to make a coaster just to try this. But, will VCD Copy X recover the .mpg from the cd disk? Should extract as .dat, just rename the extension back to .mpg.

    What's all this then?

I have more than 200 SVCDs, all burnt as Disc Image using .bin files. They work great in my player, my friends' players, PCs... Never had any luck with those XA Multitrack burns though - not even once. The only thing "wrong" with burning as Disc Image is that the info in the .cue is lost; i.e. you're not always going to have working chapters etc. (Although sometimes you do).

If, for some reason unknown to me, you feel a desire to rip out the MPEG-2 streams and redo the disc as XA (which to me seems like a waste of time, the only info you've ever lost - the cue file - isn't on the CD, so...) you need to get VCDToolsX working.

    1) Use "Save as Disc Image" in Toast
    2) Rename the .toast file to a .bin (yes, it *does* work, and just fine...)
    3) Use VCDToolsX to extract the MPEG-2
    4) Use VCDToolsX to make a .xml
    5) Use VCDToolsX to make IMG's from the .xml created in step 4
    6) Burn as XA in Toast.

Turn OFF the PBC (PlayBack Control) on your player (consult your manual to see how), and then just press Play... you might be very surprised...

    P.S.
VLS doesn't play physical SVCDs yet, but .bin files just fine (as well as MPG, DivX etc etc)... just Save as Disc Image, rename w a .bin extension and you're done
